Our trash can's been knocked over here in Maple Ridge, and same with some of the boards on my fence. If the Albion ferry ws running i bet there would be reduced sailings. We've gotten some pretty strong gusts.

Routes 1, 2, 30, 5, 8, 9, 17, 18 are all cancelled for the evening !!
Routes 22 and 24 are cancelled until further notice !
Ferries are sure saving alot tonight on fuel ! Crews should be busy cleaning the ship and doing drills, unless they take off early !

Just a little surprised this wasn't mentioned anywhere on here....
At 6:30am this morning during the drive to work this morning, was listening to the conditions at the Ferries on the radio. There was a report of a 3 sailing wait for Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay....at 6:30 in the morning!! I'm guessing service to/from Tsawwassen was cutoff at the crew change time, around 2:30 - 3:00 when all vessels were at their home ports. Route 2 toughed it out for a round trip after that time. The Coquitlam wasn't scheduled to do a 7:00pm and 9:00pm anyways, so it was solely up to the crew on the Oak Bay to cut the last connection to/from the Island early.
Currently I'm working on a construction site just down the road from Pipers Lagoon in Nanaimo, and I have an excellent view of the Strait, and watched the gnarly looking white caps develope throughout the day. The only horn I heard all day yesterday was the Coquitlams 3:00pm departure, which was loud and clear. I would have totally done a round trip on Route 2 last night the minute I got off from work. But I knew the closest sailing was the 5:00pm, which was the Oak Bay, meaning she's based on the Mainland. Would've had a hard time explaining that one to the boss the next morning because I would have been stuck in Horseshoe Bay for the night.

The winds have picked up again!
As of 9pm, winds at Saturna Island were SSE 77 gust 96 km/h!
I can only imagine what it'd be like to dock at Sturdies bay in a strong southeasterly.
The 9pm sailing of the Coastal Celebration has been crossing the Strait of Georgia at 13 knots.
The Route 2 vessels have altered their course. Currently the Queen of Oak Bay is heading straight towards UBC en route to Horseshoe Bay, and is definitely losing time this sailing. The Queen of Coquitlam has altered to the south as well en route to Nanaimo, but isn't losing any time since she's travelling downwind.
The Queen of Burnaby has been heading south down the west Texada shoreline en route to Comox, appearing to stay in protected waters until they are lined up to travel directly downwind thru the rough seas.

I was on the 5:45pm from Tsawwassen on the Coastal Inspiration and it dident seem all that windy when we left Tsawwassen. You could feel it a little bit in the strait. I came down on the Queen of New West from Duke Point at 12:45pm and it took us like 15 mins to dock due to high winds. But it seemed to have died down a bit but I guess it picked up again. It was pretty windy back at Duke Point though.

While there is no service notice for this yet, the Queen of Cowichan is currently limping across the strait back to Departure Bay at 13 knots. Apparently, she is down an engine...
I wonder if the afternoon crew will be sailing the Coquitlam instead. She doesn't have stores aboard, but if the Cowichan issue is too severe to be fixed while on the run, this might be a better option...

Yep - looks like they cancelled the 15:00 from Departure Bay, and Coquitlam will be starting with the 17:00 from HSB.

Siitech is currently not working for me right now, but the departures page is showing the Queen of Coquitlam commencing sailing out of Horseshoe Bay at 459pm. I'm guessing she's deadheading over, because current conditions are showing a 2 sail wait at Departure bay. Next available sailing: 9pm. That leads me to believe that there was no 3pm sailing, which shows cancelled next to the Queen of Cowichan's name.

The Coquitlam is at Berth 2 at Departure Bay.
The status has not been changed from Departure Bay as of yet as the crew still has to get the Coquitlam prepared for service. Once it is ready they will have the sailing posted.
There will not be a 4:59 sailing from Horseshoe Bay, that is a mistake...

I found it really hard to believe that they would deadhead the Coquitlam over when they could have loaded her up with a full load of vehicles. I'd rather see that and have her leave at 4pm than to do a deadhead run. The 2 sail wait was also a mistake. It's currently showing the 5pm full and the 7pm only 22% full. Oh the glitches that happen when they're scrambling around to make a change!

Would make more sense to fire up Renaissance wouldn’t it?

Would make more sense to fire up Renaissance wouldn’t it? No, she is currently having work done to her. Even if she was not having work done, because she was de-stored back in October, it would take a couple days to get her ready for sailing.

The Cowichan has now been fixed. It is currently loading for the 7:00 sailing from Departure Bay.
A correction to my earlier posts. The Coquitlam arrived at Langdale as of 1:30 this afternoon.

I was aboard the Cowichan's 10:30 am sailing from Departure Bay. It arrived late, sailed about 10 minutes late and was about 15 minutes late arriving at HSB. There was no indication of a problem. The car decks were full, although loosely packed.
It was a nice sunny & brisk day to be out on a ferry in Georgia Strait taking in the views.

There was no extra dockspace at Departure Bay when the Cowichan would tie up at 6:45pm on Monday - Thursday. So when the Oak Bay would arrive for her last sailing, the Cowichan would have to leave so the Oak Bay could dock, and then she'd come back in when the Oak Bay had left.

The Tenaka refit keeps getting extended. They now say it will be complete by December 13th, 2 weeks later than their previous estimation. Might as well do the work now, as it'll probably be another couple of years before her next refit.

I see they are now taking a cautious approach to adverse weather conditions up north. . . Link to Service Notice HERE.
