I decided to look on Youtube for the scene in War Games where the former Pierce County ferry M/V Islander appears and found this:
(shows up around the 1:36 mark).
The M/V Steilacoom also shows up in the background twice.
Edited to replace deleted clip with a new one

Wow. It's been a zillion or so years since I've seen that movie, but I had no idea that the ferry scenes were filmed around our neck of the woods... Thanks for sharing!

Heh, the small turboprop plane landing has the wrong sound effect attached to it. Sounds like a 747 landing, instead of a prop plane.
After the kids get off the bus they run towards the boat launch instead of the ferry loading ramp, then they magically have a course correction at the next scene.

Earlier in the same film, there's a shot of a Jumbo Class ferry in front of the Seattle waterfront, but I do believe they've grafted the wrong whistle (and whistle signal) to it.

The dubbing of sound effects wouldn't surprise me. Probably did it so "it sounded" better.

They did the same thing in The Ring with the Quinault.I read somewhere that the horse didn't like the car deck much. Note the big gates on the end of the car deck and how huge the Q-boat looks when the horse jumps over. Incidentally, the horse is all CGI at that point.

I'm guessing the gates on the ends of the ferry are CGI too just as the horse was when it was in the water.

From the pictures in the article, the damage didn't look too bad.

First, how the heck would the horse REALLY manage to get out in the first place? At least if it were on a major BC Ferry, it wouldn't have died...
