It looks like the Illahee has replaced the Nisqually on PT/Keystone. Is the Nisqually going to Eagle Harbor for the new inspections? Is WSF removing the concrete ballast or are they sending them to a yard?

The GPS systems are more accurate than the bulletins since they are not updaed as frequently.

The service bulletins are either generated by someone in the office who doesn't know the difference or simply haven't caught up. The vessel watch is a semi-live event generated by transponders on the boats themselves, although WSF can "turn off" the internet signal on out-of-service vessels.

The Quinault is at Todd right now and the Illahee is at Dakota Creek.

There is one vessel at Todd that can be seen...it was moving around a little this morning. If there is another boat there, it is hidden.

Okay, sometime during the day yesterday, both of them went up into the drydock. It is not the best photo (digital zoom), but you can make out the two.

Would a vessel similar in design to the Pierce County ferries Christine Anderson or the Steilacoom II work on the Pt. Townsend-Keystone route? I was looking at the specs and the draft on each is only 10 feet.

Not a bad thought. What's the capacity of the Christine? All I know about it is that it's the jumbo version of the Hiyu (instructions and blueprints for said modifcations apparently came with the Hiyu in 1967 and WSF reportedly loaned the plans to Pierce County).

These boats also have a lot of open deck space. Nothing like the Kulshan, but still quite a bit. PT/Keystone can get pretty nasty too, so we aren't just worried about a little rain, what about capacity issues caused by safety concerns with so much open deck space?
If I had my way I would design any replacement very visually similar to the SE's which I think have a lovely silhouette, but I may just be biased. :-)
I'm wondering if we may actually get not 2 or 3 but as many as 4 of these boats. Given how long its seems to take to get this type of thing through not just the SE's will need replacement by then and the Evergreen's will be getting pretty tired. I could see 2 for PT/K and 1 for Interisland with 1 for backup. I would hope they could get an extra, but that is probably wishful thinking.
edit: Perhaps we should have a new thread for SE replacement ferries? Seperate from the one for the new 144's?

I think I'd wait on a separate thread until such time as the idea's actually gone beyond a press conference. Then we'll actually have something to discuss beyond a quick sketch of what we'd each like to see.

The Quinault and Illahee are supposed to be going up in the drydock together. Just was wondering how it is going on the two Steels at Todds. Are they expected to be back in service sometime in August? I am going to be vacationing on Whidbey Island in two weeks and I hope to be able to ride the Illahee.

Would need a larger passenger deck too, but would that cause a 'top heavy' problem if the draft remained at 10 feet?

What I found out was 12.3 feet, just a matter of inches shorter than the Steel Electrics since the Steelys are at 12.75 feet.
