Very Intresting. I Wonder How Far We Are from a Solar Powered Ship Let's Say The Size of the...Queen of Tsawwassen...Probably Quite Far. Maybe this will become somewhat of a standard if you live in a mostly sunny area. Personally I think it would be cool to see a wind power station on one of our Ferries to power the passenger areas.

I think a solar system powering the passenger areas is not very far off. A wind turbine on top of a moving ship will actually cost the ship fuel, due to the increased air drag. Remember we are spending energy to move the ship through the air and water. When you attempt to slow that down (with a wind turbine) you have to add more energy (fuel). Also, wind turbines need to be located in regions of predictable wind patterns, and a moving ship is not all that predictable as to the wind that is not caused by the forward motion of the ship.
I have actually done a fair bit of research on this and this is the conclusion I have come to.

I'm intrigued... I wonder how the honkin' big sail affects maneuverability?
