What's going on with Highway 1 in Vancouver. Every time I come home after a 5 day shift the lanes have gotten narrower than the week before.... Is this in prep for some sort of Gateway work? Google let me down when I looked for an answer.

Google let me down when I looked for an answer. This has likely been done for pre-construction on the PMH1 (Port Mann - Highway 1) project, so they accommodate equipment for highway widening through this section. Eventually that section will be 6 lanes wide. This includes the Cassiar Connector.

Isn't it six lanes wide now? (excluding the last bit to Iron Workers) or is it six lanes per side?

Isn't it six lanes wide now? (excluding the last bit to Iron Workers) or is it six lanes per side? That section is 4 lanes wide (2 each direction), but it will be upgraded to 6 (3 each direction). I presume you are asking about the section between Boundary Road and McGill Street?

I'm sort of asking about the whole thing. Six lane sections by SFU have been narrowed for several months now. Narrowing after the tunnel seems to have just started two weeks ago. It's pretty sketchy after the First Ave entrance Eastbound.

I thought it would be 4 lanes each direction after the bridge was complete. That's what I read on the gateway project's website.... mind you that was a few months ago. Maybe they changed the plans.
