Jim, I heartily concur. The modern corporate "culture" that has infested our marine highway's highetst echelons seems to have an aversion to ships looking like, well, ships.
If only they would repaint the Queen of Tsawassen in her proper colours for BCF's 50th...
Fenk, blue

I miss Dogwood Blue. I was absolutely ecstatic when Washington State Ferries abandoned the rainbow stripe about ten years ago and returned to the classic Toll Bridge Authority colors. If only they had put the funnel striping back correctly.

Are those images of Vesuvius Queen connected to the Albion ferry history?
Do you know if Vesuvius Queen ever operated on that route>?
I know I think she and Saltspring Queen operated on the Deas Island route before the tunnel was built, but under different identities and before they became part of the provincial ferry fleet.

A little bit of false information in this post. The Vesuvius Queen has operated on the Albion Ferry Route. The Saltspring Queen was the only ferry in service before the Massey Tunnel was built, The Vesuvius Queen was operated on Okanagen Lake under the name Lloyd Jones

Great sugar packets Keefer, I have that picture of the QPR on an old BC Ferries poster. It's getting a bit tattered now.

re Berth 5 at Tsawwassen. At the time I was going to the mainland every weekend so I can tell you when they refurbished berth 5 The Nanaimo Ferries used that dock regulary untill the Spirit of BC was put into service. At First you had to board via the main Car deck if you were a foot passenger.

I wonder if the photographer here is the well-known railway photographer Dave Wilkie? The photos on this site are mostly on the rail theme. I would love to get hold of these photos and clean up and enhance them. There is some really good stuff here.

I also noticed the railway theme, but I was more looking for pictures of ships at the time. I'm even more into trains than I am into ferries though -- I hope that's a safe thing to admit on this board, so all the pictures there were great for me to look at.... And now I know why that name sounded so familiar, because I have heard of Dave Wilkie and I should have recognized it.
