Many on the forum also share a love for other areas of geekdom such as transit, railways or aviation. For those with a double, triple or even quadruple geekiness, the 787 first flight window opens today at 10:00 am PST. You will probably get coverage on the Seattle stations but in case you are away from the TV there is a live web feed on Boeings website. What it will show live, but certainly videos and pics will be added quickly afterwards. 787firstflight.newairplane.com/ffindex.htmlA poster on an aviation website summed it up quite well with a quote from Hunt for Red October. "Fly big D fly."

Thanks for the heads up!
She's a neat plane. Hope she does well on her first flight.
I have this plane on my FSX. You can get this addon from the various flight sim download and retail sites.
I'll be taking my FSX 787 to the flight sim skies when I get home tonight.
GOOD LUCK, BOEING 787!

Man, I wish I had my camera with me today. The 787 just flew right past our building about a minute ago on its way into BFI, and I got a picture-perfect view of it and its chase planes.

I don't know if very many people know, that the Pilot Michael Carriker was pilot that ran out of gas in the Boeing Restore Strato Liner that landed in the Water off of Salty's in West Seattle. ) He was the pilot or co pilot that flew the 787 this morning. tinyurl.com/ydxy99hAnyway they took off from Paine Field in Strato Liner several years ago trying to make it to Boeing Field. They should have fuel up the airplane but didn't. The plane was restored a second time and is now in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. The Strato Liner was Boeing first pressurized cabin airplane. Here is some what humorous article about the restored airliner. www.airspacemag.com/flight-today/Soggy_Stratoliner.htmlEmory in Freeland ============= [moderator edit: to change impossibly long URL address to a tiny-url, as the crazy-long address was causing a new forum-record in side-scrolling]===============

It's been a fun day for us aviation buffs. Another first flight of a new model of Boeing airliners. I did fly my FSX 787. Fun to fly. Did only a partial of what the real plane did today. My screen capture of my 787 plane in flight. That's Sequim down there with Port Angeles and the Olympics. I did this in far superior conditions than what the real plane did. MegaSceneryEarth Washington is the photoreal scenery upgrade you see in this image. When you get closer to the scenery, the more detail you see. This was captured as my plane was at 15000 feet at 180 knots indicated airspeed. As customary on first flights, the gear is usually down. It was reported that the gear was tested (raised and lowered). Now the fun begins as we see the real 787s take to the skies on an intense period of test flights.

I bailed on CNN because the reporter seemed to know nothing about nuttin. And of course CNN was yabbering over any voices such as ATC and the Boeing Spokesman. So I watched Boeing's live feed and actually, believe it or not. had Fox Seattle on (just heard Dan scream). I had Fox muted though. BCinNJ was also watching from his office and we chatted now and then on MSN. I also had a respected blogger up who works for Flight and he was uploading live broadcasts from Paine Field using his Iphone. Like the launch of the FSG ferries, it was pretty interesting to have such a multi-media, world crossing, connection over an event in real time. I was late for a meeting, but thanks to a traffic tie up, I wasn't the only one .

Air Canada's 787's are due to arrive late in 2012 or early 2013. Beyond the published dates some airlines are still jiggling their deliveries due to the economy. Some airlines are very anxious to get theirs sooner and others are delaying until traffic and financing stabilizes. Air India for example is in financial straits and has been making noises about their deliveries. Rumour has it that some large slots are still being held for a prime customer as well. So long and short, delivery times could shift.

You should have simulated yesterday's weather, too ;D. Of course, you wouldn't see much except the airplane and some clouds. It was pretty yucky out there

But, I payed a lot for upgrading my scenery database. So, I chose the scenery over the clouds. I just love looking at the photo real scenery of the state I live in as well as flying my planes in Flight Sim X. Here is another screen shot of a 787 in flight sim action. This one is a CamSim addon. Looks a bit better and a bit more realistic over the Abacus store-bought version above. This view is complete with MegaSceneryEarth Washington in my scenery database. This is at 10000 feet and, yes, that's Mount Index below. We are below the GLASR7 arrival patterns. By the way, the second 787 took off from KPAE 34L early today on her first flight. This lasted less than three hours and landed at KBFI 13R this morning.
