From the looks of it, Routes 30, 9 and 17 have their service suspended this morning due to severe weather. I'm assuming we'll see more service notices for more routes as the morning goes on. At my place it sounds like it's just hammering down with rain.
Environment Canada is reporting winds of 60km/h to 80km/h, and gusts up to 100 km/h, so I guess it would be a little bit hairy out there. It's not expected to last much longer though, so hopefully it doesn't screw up too much of the sailings this morning.

Updated Route 1 service notice Effective February 1 through to February 11 the Queen of New Westminister will be the temporary replacement vessel for the Spirit of British Columbia based out of Tsawwassen and the Spirit of Vancouver Island will also sail on this route based out of Swartz Bay. The Coastal Celebration will be providing supplementary weekend service between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen during this time. The Spirit of British Columbia is scheduled to return to service on Friday, February 12, 2010. For reservations or additional sailing information, please visit www.bcferries.com or call 1-888 BCFERRY (223-3779). Hopefully they let you up to the bridge next time! There was a large amount of floating wood debris around Rebecca Spit and at Heriot Bay. It wouldn't surprise me if Tenaka hit some wood and damaged a rudder. It wasn't me, honest!

In order to complete repairs to the #2 main engine, the Spirit of British Columbia will remain out of service until further notice. The replacement vessel will be the Queen of New Westminster.
For our commercial customers, please note the limits for the Queen of New Westminster: maximum height is 13'8" and the maximum width is 12'.

Link to Service Notice HERE.Well that now makes all Mid-Coast stops, excluding Bella Bella, having to deal with tug, barge and water taxi service for the next 2 months. . .rather unfortunate. It seems to be getting rather routine that an old minor vessel that doesn't get refitted annually encounters unforseen issues.

What happened to the Coquitlam? Did it break down? The website does not mention anything about mechanical failure but posted this.
Please be advised that due to severe weather conditions the Queen of Coquitlam is canceling their 10:00 departure from Horseshoe Bay to Langedale the 11:00 departure from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay and the 12:00 departure from Horseshoe bay to Departure Bay.

3:00 and 5:00 sailings on Route 2 (DPB - HSB) are now cancelled. Unfortunate for travellers who have been waiting for hours. Routes 1 and 30 are going to be very busy because of this. The website has recently posted that route 1 is over an hour behind.

Coastal Renaissance is currently having difficulties in her approach towards Nanaimo off of Entrance Island. She is has slowed down to 9 knots and appears to be doing donuts in the strait waiting for an opportunity to make her way to Duke Point... LATE EDIT: See here

I'd just like to mention that I was aboard the Queen of Cowichan for her 6:30am sailing this morning. It was THE ROUGHEST trip I've ever been on across the Strait. I took lots of photos of waves crashing over the bow. Unfortunately I didn't bring my video camera. Water was making its way into the forward lounge because the scuppers on the pickle forks couldn't keep up to the waves. The Main Car deck was flooding, and the dog kennel wall was destroyed due to waves.
Stay tuned for pictures....
