I'm looking for a hotel / motel in Prince Rupert, for 3 nights stay in summer.
Criteria are: - safe, quiet area (ie not the Highliner location downtown) - clean place - restaurant not a necessity - closeness to ferry is not a necessity - good value for the money.
What recommendations do you Rupert veterans have for me?
Thanks.

Definitely not a veteran of Prince Rupert... just once but I would go back. Half the rooms have harbour view. We just went for one night so I didn't worry too much about price, but I don't think it's unreasonable. www.innontheharbour.com/

On my first trip to Prince Rupert last year, I stayed at the Anchor Inn which is just up the street from the docks. Scott, Donella, et al stayed there as well on our group trip aboard the NORTHERN EXPEDTION. Nice place to stay. I was surprised to see a few of our Seattle stations on the television offerings in my room there. www.anchor-inn.com/index.htmGet reviews from Scott and Donella. Hope this is helpful. ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

The Crest Hotel is a great place to stay, and my cousin's dad's brother's daughter worked there a few years ago, as well as my mother working there in the mid '70s. This was the first hotel that came into my mind, and when I asked my mom, who lived in Prince Rupert from the age of 2 to 23, she suggested the Crest first too. I don't know why you don't want to stay at the Highliner Hoterl, it's a pretty nice place, and it's not too noisy. When I went to Rupert for my great-grandmother's funeral in 2001, we stayed at the Pillsbury house Bed and Breakfast. It's a nice place. There's the Prince Rupert Hotel, which is operated by Coast Hotels. It's in a slightly noisier neighbourhood, but it's luxurious inside. Here's a list of Prince Rupert Bed & Breakfasts. If you scroll down to near the bottom, you'll find the Eagle Bluff B&B. It's well known around town for being a good place to stay. www.princerupertlodging.worldweb.com/BedBreakfasts/All these places are in safe locations, but I didn't check up on the B&B list, so you gotta make your own call there. There's also a nice provincial park campground right on the other side of the Kaien Island Bridge off of Highway 16. Have a nice trip to the City of Rainbows!

I have stayed at the Coast Hotel in Rupert before! It's pretty good. I have also stayed at the Moby Dick Inn. Not as nice but it was okay. And we stayed at the Pacific Inn last summer when we did the Nor Ex. Be sure to check Trip Advisor if you want to see reviews of the hotels I always be sure to check that before I stay in hotels, though Prince Rupert dosent have great reviews on the hotels cause they arent anything fancy there.

ENJOY YOUR TRIP! I stayed at the Anchor Inn twice last year. First for the Northern Expedition's inaugural trip and the second time for the "Northern Extravaganza" trip that forum members did last summer. The Anchor Inn was the first hotel up from Fairview and is in walking distance from the terminal (approximately 15 minutes). The hotel itself is decent for a place like Prince Rupert, and it is quiet. There is a restaurant and pub attached that serves good food, as well.

The Coast Hotel is the only one I have stayed at in Rupert, mostly because they gave Aeroplan points . It was clean and not mouldy like my one stay in Port Hardy. I was sure I would find it growing in my hair just from the overnight stay the smell was so strong. When I opened my suitcase on the QoftN I could smell the room still.

When I opened my suitcase on the QoftN I could smell the room still. They had a still in the room? Wow, that's a backwoods version of a mini-bar. Did you need to bring your own potatoes?

Fluge, The Crest is a good bet, though they may be a bit pricey in mid summer. They also have a good restaurant on site and they do amongst other things an excellent breakfast smorgasbord. After all of that any money you may have left over can be conveniently drained out of you at the on-site 'Chances' casino. Remember though that David Hahn will be wanting all the loose change you may be carrying. I have stayed at a place in Rupert called the Parkside Motel. It is located at the NE end of town across from the Performing Arts Centre. I recall it to be reasonable and fairly basic. I do not recall it being noisy but there is a McDonald's next door so there could be noise from that during the hours that it is opened. For more see... www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g154939-d261767-Reviews-Parkside_Resort_Motel-Prince_Rupert_British_Columbia.htmlLastly, another must do for you while in the Terrace area - the Usk Ferry. I did a return 'cruise' with my wife on her just yesterday and would recommend you do the same. This is a fine example of one of BC's surviving reaction ferries. I will be posting more on the Usk ferry later on another thread.

Last time I stayed in Prince Rupert overnight I slept in the bed of my truck and parked in the rail yard. It was really quiet, until about 8:00 am when a freight trail rolled by. Couldn't beat the Oceanside lot though.
And we don't use potatoes down int eh engine room on the QoR we use molasses, yeast and bildgewater.
Cheers,

And I thought we only had that on the QoR...the secret life of the QoftN voyager is coming to light... Never mind the rumours and inuendos, let me quote and rephrase a wine maker who made plonk, but his children are now making some pretty good stuff - "I will drink no wine before its time." So the trivia question of the day, what is that family's name? The Crest was the other hotel I considered when I was there. Since all my other trips involved remaining on the ferry, I am hardly a AAA ratings guide. BTW I have found AAA ratings to be quite accurate with only a few times out of very many where I would have disputed a rating.

Maybe this thread could be re-named for all enquiries regarding accommodation?
When I leave Hornby on the 22nd of this month prior to the ferry shutdown, I was thinking of spending a couple of nights in Port MacNeill, in order to go over to Sointula on the Quadra Queen II.
Anybody have any advice on where to stay? I'm not looking for the cheapest; I want a decent quality place with walls somewhat thicker than cardboard.

Maybe this thread could be re-named for all enquiries regarding accommodation? You got it, Pontiac. Wett Coast stayed at the Haida Way Motor Inn, in May 2009 (I know this, because I gave him a ride there, after the NorEx open-ship in Port Hardy...). - hopefully he can advise you on this place or others. When I was driving through Port McNeill in July 2011, I noticed a new place: Black Bear Resort. I don't know what it's like, but it looked new. see this site for area hotel reviews: www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotels-g499144-Port_McNeill_Vancouver_Island_British_Columbia-Hotels.html

The place the Thorne family stayed in Port McNeill in May 2009 was adequate, but nothing fancy. I have no negative memories about that place so it must have been okay. I checked with my wife and we are more or less in agreement in out assessment. It is a fair distance away from the waterfront, however.
I do recall suggesting that Mr & Mrs Frugal Horn check out a place in Rupert called the Parkside Motel. I though it to be adequate but I recall that Mr Horn thought otherwise.

I know we've discussed this somewhere on the forum countless times, but in case there are any updates I've missed out on.
I'm wondering what are the better places to stay at in Port Hardy? The cost isn't really an issue as long as it's within reason. I'll be flying up there as well, a week from now actually and it's just for one night.

Unless you want to rent a cottage (a new Ecosomething named one not far from Bear Cove but more expensive) my recommendation is the Quarterdeck Inn. The Glen Lyon or Pioneer are far below that IMHO. Unless some drastic renovations have happened at the latter two. Try HelloBC or CAA for ratings. I know the better tours book the Quarterdeck first so it can fill up. They might have a BCFerries rate.

About on par with your typical Days Inn etc. I think it's about the best you can get in the Port Hardy area.

Just wanted to follow up with this. I ended up staying at the Quarterdeck Inn for 3 nights. Overall I was satisfied with it. It was clean, and didn't have any concerns. They were also doing some minor renovations (painting) while I was there. There was even access to WiFi. The Quarterdeck pub served decent food, although it was a little difficult having Breakfast there. The smell of Beer at 7:00am while you're trying to scarf down eggs and bacon and bilge water coffee wasn't the greatest experience. A co-worker of mine stayed in the North Shore Inn for a night, and was absolutely disgusted with the place. He ended up staying at the Quarterdeck for the remainder of his stay as well. Also, the Seagate Hotel is up for grabs if anyone's interested! - Haha. Some of the rooms looked like the ceiling was either non existant or badly water damaged. Could only imagine the mess inside....

Does anyone have a recommended hotel/motel in Anacortes, for staying the night-before the next morning's International sailing?
Just a simple & safe overnight stay, relatively close to the ferries.
Thanks for any advice.
(and thanks to WCK for the inspiration of an alternative way to end my vacation).

Five minutes from downtown.
