Should we get a group together and buy it and then do something cool with it? like raise it out of the water and create a muesum, restaurant, and movie theatre on the car deck? $100,000 really is pretty cheap (though not sure how much mooring fees would be) considering the price of housing around Vancouver, British Columbia. After a quick real estate search I found that that is the price of two parking spots in downtown Vancouver . I have attached an image so you can look for yourself! View AttachmentGo ahead and try that on your own, and let us know how it works out.

Looked at the Burnaby back in the day , no one would have it, docked in the back yard. I agree, it would be a ugly site for any city. Rusting away........................

Hate to be the pessimist here, but Evergreen's most likely destination is the scrap yard. It's a shame, too. I have fond memories of Evergreen. Would love to see it preserved in a maritime museum, but that's not very likely.

I'm not optimistic. Most of the idea people are being free with other people's money. " They should..." instead of " I will..." The homeless shelter idea was a nice feel-good thought but showed a potential lack of understanding of the process--I'd be surprised if the USCG didn't require some sort of inspection certificate for occupancy, which would require things like extensive sprinkler systems, etc. I could also be talking through my hat and making it up as I go, so there's that too. I've no idea what they expect of the Skansonia.

Was passing through Olympia today and decided to go downtown and snap a pic of Evergreen, since who knows how much longer we will be able to see the 'ol girl?

Been meaning to go see the Evergreen in her current home for over a year now. With today's gorgeous weather, light workloads from my classes, and the news that she probably won't be there much longer I decided to finally make the trek down to Olympia to get some pics for myself! Here she is as seen from the 4th Ave bridge: Another view from West Bay Park: Zooming in a bit, it doesn't look like much has changed onboard, as expected: And one more view after it got a bit darker: Hard to believe it's been five years since I last rode her. She looks a bit bare and lonely nowadays without the name boards, evacuation slides, rescue boats, ect. At any rate, glad I got to see my favorite vessel once more!

SO, how many of you are going for the preview??? I would love to film the expression on the face of a U.S. Border Official when they hear the response of their question: 'And what is the nature of your visit to the U.S. today? "I'm hoping to buy a ferry Sir". Now let your imaginations run wild

Not to brag, but I could just do it... but then I'd need Forum members to help me out with the gazillions to restore, maintain, and provide a home for it. Might be a challenge.

Yeah... What is it about old ferries that attracts people who have no clue about boats? This fellow just heard about the auction and thought he'd wander in and gave it a go. And he's going to look into the possibility of running it on solar. If he's concerned about his wife's reaction now, just wait a year or two.
