Her AIS is showing her on the Ship Canal near Ballard. I think its where the Foss drydocks are.

Still no idea as to what type of work is being done on the Evergreen? There doesn't seem to be any information from the DOT request for bids page. Let's hope that the old girl will be around for a long time. Her size can make her useful on almost every run except for Keystone.

It's the same work that was going on earlier this summer. I understand there were problems and the yard period had to be extended.

Is she going to be running in September before the 15th? As the Interisland Ferry? I cant find the maintenance schedule on the WSF site.

I went down to Foss today to try and get some pictures of her on the Ship Canal but she had already left. Anyone know when she left? Always wanted to get a shot of a ferry in the Locks too.

That is one of the ways the prototypical nature of the boat is revealed. Her younger sisters have longer cabins and, originally, more vertical clearance on the auto deck. (The Evergreen was sliced horizontally and given the lifting back in 1988, but I believe we've discussed that elsewhere.) The entrances to the restrooms were also relocated in the later editions, and the passenger cabins have fire divisions.

What is interesting is I looked at her length and she is about the same length as our Cumberland and Capilano!

Yeah, not much to the cabin at all. Although, the added outdoor space must be wonderful when it's nice out. I know the Issaquah boats can get crowded out there. Evergreen State by zargoman, on Flickr

Evergreen State by zargoman, on Flickr I still think they should've added a larger amount of outdoor deck space on the Issaquah-class vessels. Two pickle fork decks at each end is not enough, IMO. And you are not kidding at all about them being cramped! My last crossing on the Kitsap was standing room only on the inside and in the solariums, and people were actually sitting on the deck both inside the passenger cabin and out on the pickle fork decks. Not a very pleasant experience at all.

Well why couldent they let passengers up on the top deck on the Issaqua's??? Most double ended ferries like that the upper passenger deck you can go outside. It should of been that way from the begining!

Any ideas as to what kind of work was completed on Evergreen during her long stay at Foss Shipyards this summer? From her recent pictures, she looks almost brand new!

Due to capacity issues with the absence of the Yak, might the E-State be running just this weekend with the Chetzy to keep the schedule since there is no weekend Interisland service?

No. The Evergreen's tardiness is being blamed erroneously on "heavier than normal marine traffic." The truth is, it's a 17-knot schedule being run by a 12-knot boat. The capacity really isn't much of an issue until tomorrow when it's time to move commercial traffic.

I was on Evergreen's late running 12:40 sailing from Anacortes to Orcas on Saturday. The heavier than normal marine traffic yesterday was a tanker coming down Guemes Channel, then later a tug pulling a raft of logs which we had to slow down for. Add to that Evergreen's slower operating speed (as compared to the normal mainline ferries), it made it very difficult to keep up with the schedule. Although, by evening, she was only about 20 minutes late on the 20:20 Ana-Lop-FH sailing, so she did make up a little time, aided somewhat by some extra padding built into the schedule for that particular sailing (i.e. a 40 minute dwell time in Anacortes, at least when it's running on time). In any case, I took the oppourtunity to take some pics of Evergreen yesterday since it's not very often that I get to ride on that vessel. view across the End #1 pickle fork to Sealth in Slip 1 Really, how many times are we going to do this? Once again, we come within 100 yards of meeting one another. (I think I'm one of the shadows in the pilothouse on the Sealth.)

:)I've just been enjoying your photolouge of Evergreen State, and thinking how I was just a youngster, many years ago, when this vessel was given a new vessel display at Sidney in the 1950,s years before the advent of our BC ferries! so she is remarkably well kept up in view of the passage of these years! too bad we haven't done the same with our vessels. :)mrdot.

Originally nicknamed the Evergreen Mistake, she has maintained the unique characteristics of her period.
