Nice picture on the website.
Kitsap Transit foot ferry runs aground in Jefferson CountyBREMERTON — Kitsap Transit’s research ferry ran aground Monday while en route to the Port of Port Townsend to be hauled out of the water for the winter. The Rich Passage 1 nosed onto the beach while going through narrow Hadlock Cut between Indian Island and the Jefferson County mainland, John Clauson, Kitsap Transit executive director, said from the boat early Monday afternoon. The skipper took the catamaran on the wrong side of the channel marker, Clauson said. The two and Clauson’s son were the only people aboard. The skipper tried to back off the beach, but the boat didn’t easily break free, so he shut it down to prevent sucking anything into the water jets. By the time vessel assistance arrived, the RP1 was high and dry. Clauson said the afternoon tide won’t be very high and they’ll probably have to wait until Tuesday morning before the boat floats free. Coast Guard experts inspected the boat and didn’t find any damage other than some scraped paint, Clauson said. “It’s not really how I planned to spend my afternoon,” he said. “It could’ve been a lot worse. It could’ve had some major damage.” Kitsap Transit completed wake testing on Rich Passage 1, including four months while carrying paying passengers, on Nov. 2. Preliminary results indicate the catamaran’s wake is small enough to operate in Rich Passage, but scientists continue to analyze data and will produce a final report in March. They’ll have a preliminary report Friday at the ferry subcommittee meeting. The boat was supposed to go to Port Townsend earlier, but the state needed it to help out on the Seattle-Bremerton route for a couple weeks when car ferries were broken.

Some pics of the Lady of the Lake II, the Lady Cat and the Lady Express on Lake Chelan earlier today. The water reflection just looks awesome: MV Lady of the Lake II and MV Lady Cat - Lake Chelan Boat Co. by SolDuc Photo, on Flickr Taken from Water and Terrace: MV Lady of the Lake II, MV Lady Express and MV Lady Cat - Lake Chelan Boat Co. by SolDuc Photo, on Flickr The two following from Lakeside Park: MV Lady of the Lake II, MV Lady Express and MV Lady Cat - Lake Chelan Boat Co. by SolDuc Photo, on Flickr and giving a broader view: MV Lady of the Lake II, MV Lady Express and MV Lady Cat - Lake Chelan Boat Co. by SolDuc Photo, on Flickr For the quick story the Lady Cat is a high speed catamaran (as you would guess by its name) that was built during the last decade (I don't have the exact year) and operated until fairly recently when fuel prices went up. Making the run up the lake only last one hour and fifteen minutes, it could do two roundtrips per day. It is currently in Layup for the winter, like the Lady II, but it is not very likely that next summer will see her in service.

My mom used to pilot that boat, and another one they had, back in the '70s named the Retsil, when it was owned by Horluck Transportation Company.

Looks like the mighty Spirit of Kingston is not ready for service yet. Why is King Metro replacing the Rachel Marie, 172 passengers, with Spirit of Kingston, 147 passengers, on the West Seattle/Downtown Seattle route? Is West Seattle/Downtown Seattle route not a popular route?

Is West Seattle/Downtown Seattle route not a popular route? If you consult the numbers, you'll find out that the West Seattle route rarely sees more than 100 passengers onboard (however, it's a completely different story for Vashon). KCWT had the option of getting a new boat and it did it, so now it has a spare boat if one breaks down and does not need to loan a boat from another POF company when one of the boats goes in for maintenance. And afterall 147 passengers is better than zero .

Also, in general West Seattle ridership doesn't require the bigger boat, except possibly during the peak tourist season.

Because they own the Spirit of Kingston. Also, in general West Seattle ridership doesn't require the bigger boat, except possibly during the peak tourist season. Did the route become less popular since the RapidRide started? It could be a factor contributing to it but it is not the most likely factor. There are still a few factors to consider: - The Rapid Ride is mostly aimed at people from the Junction, Fauntleroy or Vashon commuters while the Water Taxi is more aimed at commuters from North Admiral (Duwamish Head). - Because of the larger range that Rapid Ride contains, it also has a larger threshold, which might mean full/standing space only buses in the rush hour. Some people might then take their own cars or the Water Taxi, which are less cramped. - Train and boat transit are generally more attractive than buses (and here comes my idea to replace Rapid Ride C with a Light Rail/streetcar after completion of ST2) - Because the costs of driving a car is similar to the cost of the Water Taxi, more people might consider riding a car rather than the water taxi The West Seattle route has not seen a lot of riders per trip (and the increased ridership that you may see is because of the summer all-day and weekend service (mostly for tourists), not more commuters. --EDIT-- You may also notice that ridership is higher for the evening commute. This can be due to more recreational use of the water taxi (as it is in times that tourists are touring the city) or it might as well be due to the lack of a bus-only lane on the WB West Seattle Bridge, thus making the buses way slower as they have to use general purpose lanes, which are typically congested at this time of the day.

When does the Spirit of Kingston start service for King County Water Taxi? Middle of the month. It was supposed to start service when weekend service resumed last month, but it was delayed for crew training.

A particularly crowded (exterior wise) Rachel Marie departing Downtown for West Seattle. Tourists will love it when the Spirit of Kingston enters the route, as is has much more exterior space than the two sisters. Btw: does anybody know if the SoK will get renamed as she enters service? King County Water taxi is think about building their own boats in 2014. Which will replaced the Rachel Marie, and the Melissa Ann leased from Four Seasons Marine Services. From the link.

It doesn't say anywhere that they will replace the actual boats! If you did catch that, where did you? And also I think that for standardization purposes they should be the same design with just a different number of lifejackets. If Vashon Islanders don't fill in the boat too much I could possibly see Southworth added to the route, with up to four sailings each way. It will be fun getting to see those built and to ride them once they're done!

They do want to replace the leased boats with boats of their own; The two new ones for normal service and the Spirit of Kingston for back-up.

At the same place that the Spirit of Kingston was until today. This place is the maintenance barge, located between piers 50 and 48, which I will then call pier 49.
