My comments were harsh because I do care about these old boats, and I believe that if they can't be saved- and most of the time they can't- it's best that they go the to shipbreaker rather than linger.
Consider that the Kalakala has now spent more time rotting away in retirement than she spent in active service, and that includes her years as the Peralta. This Rodrigues character has done absolutely nothing to honour her memory.
The recent purchase of the Lady Rose by Jamie Bray, and now her move to a new home in Tofino, has been cause for optimism on the north side of the border that at least one worthy old stalwart of the coast might be saved. But then there's the troublingly familiar sense of deja vu when I read that "...he does not yet have the funding, permits or a clear idea of what kind of restaurant he would like to open", and I think, please, not that movie again. No more rusting hulks on the shoreline. Get it done, or turn her into rebar, and let us remember her as she was.
