While digging through some Kitsap Sun archives for the Kalakala project, I stumbled upon these archive photos of the M.V. Yakima, taken on July 7, 1977. On that day, apparently, a fire broke out in the engine room. Interesting to see a close-up picture of the old gates at No. 1 End. That's a great find! Thanks for sharing it.

A ton of pix of the original Bremerton ferry dock, plus some of the Kaleetan in Winslow when it was brand new.

Damaged propeller scrambles ferry service in San Juan Islandsby KOMO StaffMonday, April 23rd 2018 SEATTLE - A state ferry serving the San Juan Islands has been knocked out of service by a bent propeller, disrupting the schedule there until further notice. Ferry officials said the damage was caused after the propeller on the ferry Yakima hit a submerged object near Lopez Island on Sunday. The Yakima is now being taken to the state ferry system's Bainbridge Island maintenance facility for emergency repairs. It was unclear how long the repairs would take. Hello, all! This past weekend, I ventured with my mom to Anacortes for a special Covid-edition San Juan ferry trip! Before you make any assumptions, I of course must tell you that my mom and I took all necessary precautions. We always wore a mask, socially distanced (to the best of our abilities), washed and sanitized our hands frequently, and stayed in our vehicles for as long as possible during the sailing. now, with that out of the way, I'd like to share some of the photos I have from this trip of the Yakima. Quite PHOTO HEAVY!M/V Yakima at Tie-Up Slip, Anacortes, WA by elfmphotography, on Flickr We got to Anacortes while the Yakima was still in layup. She was brought out less than an hour later for service to Lopez, Shaw, and Orcas Islands. Any recollection as to the last time the Yakima was in Edmonds? Managed to catch her there today on VesselWatch - knew that was scheduled for today @ trials, but didn't make it down to see, but would be curious to know how long its been since she's docked there.

I know Yakima was one of the regulars at Edmonds-Kingston in the mid 90's, often paired with Hyak or Chelan. When the Jumbo Mark II's came into service, they moved Yakima up to Anacortes in 1999, and for the most part, she's been an island boat since then. Don't know if Yakima has subbed for an out of service vessel at Edmonds since the 90's, but it's possible - rare, but possible. Certainly, Yakima has subbed in at Bremerton on occasion since the 90's.

I remember seeing Yakima working at Edmonds sometime in the Spring of 2012… I think it was running alongside Walla Walla. Can’t recall a time it has been there since, but I could be wrong.

I have seen notice that Kaleetean has been on Edmonds to Kingston route in past three years. I know it’s not Yakima but they are sister ships. Kaleetan's done short stints at Edmonds-Kingston and Seattle-Bainbridge, and that was even before the pandemic and the associated vessel/crew shortage issue. Most of the time, Kaleetan's at Bremerton, but right now she's at Anacortes, subbing for Yakima - always nice to see Kaleetan back in her old stomping grounds. I just looked at the schedule, and Yakima's now back in service, too, subbing for Samish. So, the two Supers are together in the islands this week. That doesn't happen too often anymore.
