Funny, that seems to be about where the ailing ferry and the HIYU routinely meet when she's out on an emergency call. Said if before and I'll say it again: Hail to the Mighty Hiyu: Saving the world, one car at a time.

The news article said 'through the weekend and next week,' and from the damage I saw, that sounds about right.

hmm still might be a chance to get down to Anacortes to ride the Evergreen State. I will have to see though as I thought the Yakima was the #3 boat that left Anacortes at 2:40pm??? which would of been perfect to drive down for that roundtrip on the Evergreen but now the Evergreen is #2 which makes it harder for a day trip at least which is all I can do right now.

No, the Yakima/Evergreen is the #2 boat. They are the one that starts out at 4:15 or so in the morning, then goes out of service at 1:20 or so until about 4 in the afternoon.

I think Karl may have looked at the WSF schedule and it lists the E-state as the #2 boat.

I think Karl may have looked at the WSF schedule and it lists the E-state as the #2 boat. As well it should. That's the position it's running in. The Yakima was only the #3 boat for about eight hours on Thursday; otherwise it's usually the #2 boat.

Well it looks like the Yak is in for major repairs. She is being towed south by the tug Lindsay Foss. It is a good thing that WSF now has extra boats to shuffle and that we are on the winter schedule. I would hate to think what it would be like if it was summer .

Again?! Related to the previous breakdown? According to scuttlebutt, possibly. But rumor has it that something different actually failed; details are not forthcoming.

How long is the Yakima in the San Juans for??? I cant seem to find the maintenance schedule for WSF and I dont have time to look for it. Right now, the YAKIMA is in sick bay. The route has the ELWHA, SEALTH, and EVERGREEN STATE doing domestic runs and the CHETZEMOKA is doing runs within the islands. After the YAKIMA returns, the CHETZY is slated for a one-week crew training session and will then test out a short run for awhile at Tahlequah. The page is at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/serviceThe most current slate at the time of this posting is at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/NR/rdonlyres/D5039641-4896-45CB-AB41-F33B58DD23DD/0/VesselStatus148.pdf

Looks like Yakima is expected to return to service sometime next week. www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedule/bulletin.aspxIslanders will be happy to have Yakima back. Evergreen's slower speed and reduced capacity has been a burden, I'm sure.

David Moseley posted an update about Yakima's status in his weekly e-mail bulletin, and actually eluded a bit as to what the problem is, unlike the service notifications which have not mentioned anything as to the cause. Here is what he had to say:

Actually, he's alluded to the cause. The service bulletins have eluded. Or perhaps evaded. ;D (Flavin!)

It's always "a mechanical problem" until the full release comes out. Somehow (it baffled me), word spreads very fast through the fleet. I can almost always get good info by asking a boat crew member.

If the plans stay as they are, the Yakima will be on the triangle on Sunday:
Faunt/Va/SW On Two-Boat Schedule Mon/Tue May 21-22 Due to necessary vessel repairs and inspections, the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route will operate on a two-boat schedule on Monday, May 21, and Tuesday, May 22, with the 90-car Sealth and the 124-car Kitsap. The two-boat schedule is available at Two Boat Schedule. Please plan ahead for travel on this route on Monday and Tuesday. The 144-car Yakima will serve as the third vessel on Sunday, May 20. The Yakima may depart terminals with vehicle space still available in order to keep the schedule. The 87-car Tillikum will rejoin the Sealth and Kitsap on the route on Wednesday, May 23.

From what was mentioned on the ferry this morning, the 2 boat schedule was going to be in effect on Sunday as well.
I do hope the plans stay as they are since this would be one of the extremely rare times a super class vessel has been on the route.
