PHOTO NOT TO BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PERMISSION. Taken in the afternoon of April 12, 2011, we see the big MV PUYALLUP under the snow capped Mount Index. Yes, we can see that great mountain from this side of the Cascades. It's the other side that's breathtaking and you can see this on US2, the Stevens Pass Highway. I took a round trip aboard the MV SPOKANE this afternoon on the Edmonds-Kingston run. The DOT logo on the stack of the PUYALLUP looks OK. If BC ferries have to be branded as well as Pierce County's, I guess WSF should too. Even the PRINCESS MARGUERITE and PRINCESS PATRICIA were branded with a checkerboard logo on their fore stacks in the 1960s.

Hey EGFleet, a LOT of your pix are broken. As for the Puyallup, I took a few of her on her departure from Seattle yesterday. These are the first photos I've taken from outside the vessel. On a crossing in December (before I joined WCF) I took pix from my cell phone that were really crappy. Hope to repeat that soon with my Nikon! Nice. That little peckaboo view which is visible on Columbia (sort of) and Marion/Madison and to a lesser extent Spring and Seneca right as boats arrive/depart one is of my favorite views of the ferries actually. :-)
I've answered the tourist question of "where are the ferries?" while standing on that exact spot many times (with the boat of course visible) and see plenty of tourists (ok and maybe a few ferrynuts ;-) walking down the hills get very excited upon seeing the ferry. For many tourists a view like this is going to be the first time they see one.

Puyallup is back at Edmonds-Kingston today, albeit running just a little late. (And they were towing a disabled car that was blocking the street out front as I came by today, with their dock tractor/whatever you call it...)
Oh well. I was sort of enjoying watching the matched-pair Spokane and Walla Walla going by.

Puyallup chuggin' along in the fog. I had to go to Kingston and then Mukilteo to get to work b/c I knew Port Townsend would be canceled. It was worth it. The Puyallup, IMHO, is the best ferry in Washington's Salish Sea--ever. The Klickitat, of course, is a close second.

Ooo, I wish to respectfully disagree. The Kaleetan shall fight for that honor! To the death! LOL.

Sorry Barnacle, didn't mean to dis' the Malahat. That thing was truly evolutionary.

So was the Kalakala. May I assume there was a reason they never built a second Malahat, too?

So...the new maintenance schedule was posted today.
Interesting to note that the Puyallup's drydocking is scheduled for "VAN BC."

You island guys will get a chance to see it in Anacortes this Sunday. Ship will transit to Anacortes in the morning under her own power. She will lay at the tie up slip until about 1700 for the final trip to Vancouver Drydock.
Credit drydock will be completed on Friday then back to Eagle Harbor for more work.

I had been under the impression that the Jones Act prevented work being done on American ships in non-American yards. Anybody have any insight on this?

Oooooh, so us BC Ferry geeks are going to have a WSF vessel visiting our stomping grounds???!!! ;D How long is the drydocking at VDD planned for? Regardless, I'll try my best to make it over to Vancouver early in the week to see this rare opportunity!

It is only five days to complete USCG periodic inspection requirements due by Dec 31. Over the sill at 0500 Mon.
American vessels can be repaired off shore, they just can't be built there. Vancouver and Victoria both do business with American flag ships. They have good reputations.

The Kittitas spent about three weeks a Burrard Yarrows sometime in the late '80's. That was a great drydocking, because North Van was just outside the gate.
