I was creating a JibJab e-card with a bunch of dancing ferries, and I got to the end and discovered that JibJab is now a pay site. And there are lots of frustrated paying customers.
...and the JibJab website doesn't tell you that it's a pay site, until you've created your card (after all that work) and then it tells you that you need to register and pay.
Oh well, I was very close to having a nice JibJab dancing elves card with ferry faces: - Tenaka - Mayne Queen - Nor Ex - Burnaby - Island Sky.

Merry Christmas everyone! Does anyone remember how many ferry trips they have done this year??? For me it's too many to count! lol! I have done 14 trips in all this year; low by the standards of south coast members. That total comes from 5 trips in March, 3 in May, 2 in July, & 4 in September. Not one of them was a northern trip ( NorEx, NorAd). I also did a 7 day Alaska cruise aboard HAL's Volendam.

:)Iàm alittle late for the `merry christmas`greetings, but a happy new year will sufice! as for ferry trips, I will have to `get out there`before my seniors pass is done, and I just had reached that perk! but we had a few of them, perhaps the best two were on the mid island crossing on the albundy and back on the new costal, which managed a soft landing at duke pt! :)mrdot.

Merry Christmas everyone! Does anyone remember how many ferry trips they have done this year??? For me it's too many to count! lol! So far I have done over 150 trips* this year. "Over," because not all my trips are accounted for; I don't save my receipts for trips that I don't pay passage for myself. I'm going to say that roughly 8 trips (4 roundtrips on route 3) have not been taken into account. My summer job across the water definitly helped boost my total - I'd say that about 80-90% of my trips this year have been on route 3. I will calculate the exact number once I've completed all my ferry travels this year *The 150 figure is my total of one-way trips across the system.

I tend to review my monetary expenditures, rather than number of trips taken, when accounting for ferry travel.
Traveling with a vehicle (specifically on Routes 30 and 2) is responsible for nearly doubling my annual budget for ferry travel this year - trips I would normally replace with air travel. In the summer alone, I took roughly 30 trips, 24 of which were done with a vehicle. The rest of the year, I did about another 30, all of which were done as a foot passenger, bringing my total to about 60.

Foot Passenger trips I don't know how many as I don't usually keep track and I know it's a lot! I did 5 trips with the car this whole year. There will probably be at least one more random trip before 2014!

An elaborate front yard Christmas lights display, in Nanaimo BC (Howard Ave) - I read about this in our local newspaper, regarding some of the better front-yard displays in town, and the story mentioned the ferry cut-out. So this was a great reason to do some boxing day evening driving around with Mrs. Horn, to see the lovely lights. - I posted this photo on the WSF fan-club Facebook page (ie. our WCFF FB page) and I suggested that it is similar to a WSF Jumbo class, in citrus livery. I'll see what the various WSF facebook fans have to say about that (I'll agree with whatever Bob Rooks says this is ).

For my number of ferry trips in 2013, I count 56 single trips for me.
- For the various inland ferries that I rode back-and-forth multiple times during September, I'm only counting each route once.
Seasonal breakdown: - 8 in winter - 16 in spring - 20 in summer - 12 in autumn

Just curious: Did anyone receive any ferry or transpo-geek gifts for Christmas ?
I received a "Railways of Canada" calendar, which is now hanging in my office. It is locomotive shots that include: - VIA - White Pass & Yukon - CP - CN - Rocky Mountaineer - Royal Hudson #2860

In terms of ferry nerd related stuff, I got the AMHS 50th Anniversary poster, which is really nice and big (so big with unusual dimensions that I'm having a hard time trying to find a frame for it). It is dated 2013. Yep, that was the year when AMHS celebrated 50 years or reliable service to many communities in Alaska. (full sarcasm intended, don't take it bad)

Check with them if they can frame it for you. I pass this shop lots of times. Hope all had a good Christmas holiday!

The celebration of "Christmas" unfolds differently for many of us, relative to the multicultural society in which we live. For most of us, we celebrate within a peaceful, prosperous, and generous society far from the realities of fear, poverty, disease, and many other human indignities. Our members, by and of themselves cannot right all the evils of the world but there is one thing that we can do. Given that our forum focus is primarily Maritime/Nautical in nature, let's take a moment to give a shout out of Glad Tidings to all those to sail the oceans and inland waters of the world as many mariners are far from home, away from family, friends and community while delivering the vital goods, services, public transport and global watch-keeping services that we landlubbers take for granted. Being at sea during any festive period can be a very lonely experience. I speak from personal experiences in Tokyo, Lormont (France) and yes, even Prince Rupert, B.C. If your community has a Mission To Seaman, Flying Angel, or other similar organization, you might consider dropping in and see what time or talent you could donate to them. Your involvement would be received most delightfully. A 'warm fuzzy' for the Port of Vancouver: We are known as one of the most friendly ports in the world to visit. May all your Port - Red, Starboard -Green, and Stern- White lights shine ever brightly now, and throughout 2015 as we navigate the oceans and inland waters of our daily routines!

Merry Christmas to all members of the forum far & wide ... And here's to a better year in 2021. I have not once travelled on a BC Ferry in 2020. I have, however, done a rounder on the Usk reaction ferry, and one trip across Kootenay Lake on the Osprey 2000. I also crossed Upper Arrow Lake on the Columbia. Other than that I have had just a couple of opportunities to take photos of our ferries from the shore.
Like I said, here's hoping things will get better in 2021. I will leave you all with a wintry ferry seen from February 2019 ...

Merry Christmas to all members of the forum far & wide ... Thanks, and Ferry Merry Christmas to you. My 2020 ferry count is one set of trips, for work to/from Denman & Hornby Islands in early February. That empty streak will end with a couple trips on Island Aurora in early January 2021.

Ditto on the Ferry Merry Christmas!
We will be heading to Orcas on Christmas Day to spend Christmas with my dad. My ferry travels this year have pretty much been Anacortes to Orcas, and once on the Port Townsend-Coupeville crossing. Being relegated to the car for the crossings, it's definitely not been as enjoyable, but I feel blessed that we are still able to go.

It's been a good year for seeing steel rails

I'll add my best wishes to everyone... Merry Christmas, or however you say it. I think the lamest, safest salute I saw was in a store window, "Winter greetings!".
I guess it's a limited Covid Christmas for everyone this year. I made turkey dinner for a friend this evening, and I'll be doing another with my two daughters on Boxing Day. That's the extent of my bubble-icious celebrating.
I miss recreational ferry travel and day trips. When things get declared safer, BC Ferries will be getting some business from me.

Merry Christmas to everyone on the forum. Like everyone else my ferry trips are significantly down this year too. I can pretty much count how many I have done which I could never do before cause I usually do so many in a year. Total this year so far are 17 trips. I don’t count individual sailings I do it by trips meaning round trips. Since June I have only done the route 1 ships and route 5 on the Cumberland. Let’s hope 2021 will be a better year.
