So here is a thread for the little Bartlett. Here are some old photos that my family has that I scanned of the old work boat. The Bartlett arriving Cordova. Waiting to load in Cordova. A view of the bridge wing. The Bartlett let passengers on the wings up till the day she was retired. Another view over the wing at sunset. A view forward outside the observation lounge. The stern ramp. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Cordova terminal is a display remembering the Bartlett. Finally, the builders plaque that is on display in the terminal. She was a work boat, she had no frills and was often referred to as a cattle boat because of this, but she was a good ship.

I have several pictures of Bartlett, but they aren't 'electronic', so I'll have to scan them, then post them.
Traveled the Bartlett twice back in the 90s. Got the car on her (space A) one morning out of Valdez just because I could. Back in those days she would still cruise up to the glacier. Got an engine room and bridge tour. Good luck doing that today.
I'll get the pics scanned and posted soon.

That's the E.L. Bartlett, a former AMHS ferry built in 1968 and retired in 2003. It is now owned by the Seattle Maritime Academy, which owns several ships used for training.

I was aware of that thanks to the day room on EGFleet.com. I think the one page we're talking about goes back to September or October 2012. Neat little ship, as she was AMHS' only boat with a bow visor for forward loading.

The Bartlett is, of course, another Spaulding design. It is a sister to the Le Conte (still in service) although I am not sure if they were pretty much identical twins, or just cousins.

She is a cousin of the Le Conte, which is a stster to the Aurora. The later two have side doors for forward loading while the Bartlett has a bow visor. One day I'll actually have to go up as a pedestrian on the Ballard bridge and see what she actually looks like!

Hey fellow ferry fans I was in Vancouver a while back and when passing I want to say chilliwack maybe Surrey on the highway heading into Abbotsford I passed what I can tell you was most certainly a AMHS blue canoe and I got as close as I could to it on my way back to Victoria and I want to say it was the E.L Bartlett but I am not certain as I couldn't get close enough to read the name as she was nestled in between some other vessels,if any one has some info I would greatly appreciate it.p.s it is not the Queen of sidney as I know a BCFERRY apart from a AMHS Blue canoe

I can confirm that the Bartlett was towed away from Ballard in December of 2018, and was told she was destined for “somewhere in Canada”. Not 100% if sure that’s her, but am 99% confident that’s probably the E.L. Bartlett you’re seeing. Can’t think of any other blue canoes that would be mothballed there these days. BTW when we were cleaning her out prepping for her departure, I managed to snag one of her muster lists as well as a radio log book.

That's awesome and I definitely figured it was the E.L Bartlett as it looked ferry similar to the Aurora and Le Conte but thanks for the heads up I appreciate it cheers

Well, this is most interesting. Thank you for sharing this. Wonder if she is on Google maps somewhere?
Update: Just found her on Google maps! The good news is that she is at the top of 138 Street is Surrey. The bad news is she located at the other side of Thornton Yard. Got any friends at CN?

It is possible to photograph it from the other side. I did so last March (and then promptly forgot to post this photo). E.L. Bartlett - Fraser River by Michael, on Flickr

I doubt that anyone here has personal knowledge of the Bartlett, but I wonder about the windows where you would expect the upper part of the car deck to be. A saddle lounge on one or both sides? Sad that it looks like she is preparing to be scrapped.
Another reason to despise Photobucket, when you look at the ruined photos on this page. They've vandalized a good portion of the maritime record that people have posted on this site.

We did a number of training exercises aboard her before she was towed away in December of that year. Those windows were where the crew’s quarters and offices were, and she had a handful of staterooms on the other side, but I think those just had portholes.

Portside large windows was a recliner lounge not unlike the bigger ships. Starboard side held crew quarters. There were no passenger cabins on Bartlett.

Following up on Awesome Cheese, I was surprised that while doing some post production work on a condo shoot, there she was!

I replied to the question Neil posed about the "windows where you expect the upper part of the car deck to be" quite a while ago . . . that reply seems to have disappeared. Those large windows, port side, fairly mid-ships, 'where you would expect the upper part of the car deck to be' was, when I sailed on Bartlett in PWS (many times) a small recliner lounge. Very quiet and secluded section of the ship. I can't speak to the portholes forward of that space, haven't been in there. Did manage to get a tour of the engine room though. Pics aren't digital, I'll see if I can find them, scan them, and post them here.

I've posted so many times about old car ferries that get bought by people who don't have the resources to own them that I feel like I'm repeating myself. But I'm not, really, because there are so many examples. According to the April edition of Western Mariner, the latest case might be the E.L. Bartlett, which as noted in this thread has been in downtown Vancouver for some time. According to the magazine, she was sold by the Seattle Marine Academy in 2018 to a Canadian buyer. She may have then been seized and impounded near the foot of Main Street, where she still languishes.

She is indeed sitting docked at the Vancouver Police Marine Squad at the North foot of Main Street. She looks in sorry shape, and I was told she was found abandoned and towed there waiting on a insurance issue. Hope this helps with any interest.
