Just to let you all know I have decided to move my BC Ferry pictures to photobucket to save room on fotopic for my Bus and rail pictures. I will be deleating the ferry pictures from fotopic soon and you can view them at this location: s109.photobucket.com/albums/m196/shiptracker You will notice that I have not uploaded my pictures of the Queen of New West. This is because of thier poor quality. As I am new at this didgital thing, I have learned that the Zoom feature is of a less quality than a standard 35mm.

Hey JCA, do you still have those pics from a few years ago that were on your old fotopic site? You used to have lots of great pics of the Ferries in expo scheme, along with interior pics of the Oak Bay and Coquitlam, pre mid-life.

Yes I do, all in my photo album. I have interior shots of the Queen of Cowichan before her mid-life and some of the Coquitlam. The problem is that I do not have access to a scanner to scan them. I was down at Departure Bay this afternoon, took some pictures of the Coquitlam and watched a Crane remove some of the ramp support from Berth 2. I will post these in about a week.

ah nice, the old Oaky interior. I miss that old interior. You notice the old C class smell when you walk on the Alberni!

What I will do is inquire at Walmart to see how much it would cost me to scan these pictures on to a disc. If it does not cost much I will see what I can do to get these pictures posted.
In addition to the Old picts, I have pictures of the PRQ, BQ, mv Tenaka and mv Kalhoke at Nanaimo Shipyards. I also have pictures of the Spirit of BC, Queen of Nanaimo taken at Tsawwassen this past August.

I've now arrived at the 1/3rd mark of the capacity of my new photobucket site that I've been building lately and, although there are gaps to be filled and titles to be added still, I thought now would be an appropriate time to unveil the progress so-far. Enjoy s171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/tsawwassenterminalThe sub-menus can be a little daunting at first, so here's a little help... The "When Ferries Meet" category holds some of my favorite pics taken yet, found here s171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/tsawwassenterminal/British%20Columbia%20Ferry%20Services(Click the When Ferries Meet link) ...Where my photos and short video clips of the relatively rare sight of our 2 Spirit Class vessels, among others, taken from the bluffs of Tsawwassen can be found. You'll find your way, I'm sure, around the range of photos from the model of the classic old French liner Normandie, as seen aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach near L.A., s171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/tsawwassenterminal/Various%20Nautical%20Sights/Classic%20Liners(Click the Normandie link) To Various Nautical Sights, s171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/tsawwassenterminal/Various%20Nautical%20SightsAll the way to the old interior of the Spirit of Vancouver Island, and a wide range between. Cheers, Graham P.S. There's much more on the way.

Ok sorry that it took me a bit longer (alright alot longer) to post these pictures of the Queen of Prince Rupert and the Nimpkish. But between moving and opening a business this is what happens. I took these photos last October 7 & 8th travelling from Port Hardy to Bella Coola. Sorry they do not have captions. And this is my first photo upload so let me know if this doesn't work. LOL. s167.photobucket.com/albums/u147/Michealf_2007/Nimpkish%20Trip/?start=0

Thanks for posting those. Those are the first on-board photos that I've seen of Nimpkish on her mid-coast run.
The stern loading-ramps are pretty unusual for me to see. That must be for Bella Coola, Shearwater and Ocean Falls, I suppose.
What was your trip itinerary? Did you sail from Bella Coola to Bella Bella on the Nimpkish, and the transfer to the QPR at BB ?

Thanks! I thought that the ramp on the stern was pretty unusal as well. The only place they don't use it is at Ocean Falls. All the other stops they back into (Klemtu, McLaughlin Bay, Shearwater and Bella Coola). She's a great little ferry although I think it was a bit long for my Father. We departed from Port Hardy on that trip (I think around 6:30pm). The Queen of Prince Rupert arrived McLaughlin Bay at 1am (I managed to sleep a few hours on the floor on her). We got off there and the Nimpkish was coming over from Shearwater but she had to wait as they did a boat drill on the QPR which made her late. We finally departed about 2:30am from Shearwater. I must say the dock crew there were fantastic they gave us lots of coffee, lol. Upon departure we were supposed to go back to Shearwater but no one was headed that way so we went straight for Ocean Falls (with two cars awaiting to get off there). They let them go on ahead of us and then backed me onto the Nimpkish. We arrived Ocean Falls around 5am and stayed there about 5 mins and then it was off to Bella Coola. The crew on the Nimpkish were awesome giving us coffee, chatting with us and giving me the tour of the "Grand Engine Room" on the Nimpkish (can you tell I enjoy coffee by now). We arrived Bella Coola around 1pm and then drove over "the Hill" to stay the night at Williams Lake.

So you had the last leg from Ocean Falls to Bella Coola in the daylight........that's good. What did you do during these hours? That's pretty amazing scenery on a semi-clear weather day.
For the Nimpkish, did you mainly stay in either side lounge, or in your vehicle? (apart from all the tours). What was your main "sit down place" on Nimpkish? I'm curious, as I and others have ridden the Nimpkish on the Cortes run, and we all remarked on how cramped she must feel during a long mid-coast trip.
Was the starboard side "TV Lounge" your favourite place?
Another question: Did you purposely do the QPR / Nimpkish trip to Bella Coola, instead of the more conventional Queen of Chilliwack trip? (I think I've found the answer, as you traveled in October, after the Route-40 season was over). So the question is modified to say: "Did you leave the trip until October on purpose, in order to do this unique "Bella Bella transfer" journey?" Was this part of a longer pleasure trip?
I get the idea that Nimpkish waits for the QPR to arrive....so that if QPR is late, then Nimpkish will wait (unlike some other transfers in transportation......). Did you get the impression that MV Nimpkish is playing the role of dinghy for the larger QPR ship?
For the 2 vehicles that departed at Ocean Falls, did you know what they were going there for? Tourism, industry, fisheries, sasquatch expedition, etc?? just curious about what types of people go to Ocean Falls in October. I had thought that the town was mostly dead....except for some Bruce Cockburn fans.
For Bella Coola, did you stay in BCBC at the Bella Coola Valley Inn? Both Karl and myself have stayed their on our various BCBC trips. Hagensborg looks like a nice town to stay in, too.
Was there snow in the Bella Coolla Valley, and did you see any bears (maybe hibernation time already in October?). We had seen a big brown bear crossing the highway, just east of Hagensborg, in August one year.
What did you think of the hill? Did you stop to cool your engine, or was it one long steady climb? What were your thoughts of the Chilcotin Plateau country? In 1999, we thought it was a scene from a Louis Lamour cowboy novel....real ranch country.
Forgive the 100 questions, but your experience on this trip is very interesting to me.

Forgive the 100 questions, but your experience on this trip is very interesting to me. Ok so forgive me for quoting you but it was the only way to answer your questions. No worries on the questions by the way I enjoy answering all you have. Yes the last leg of the trip from Ocean Falls to Bella Coola was daylight plus it was sunny and clear so it made it even better. We had to stay on the starboard side lounge on the her as the port side one was set up for the crew. I am thinking that both lounges are open and available when she runs at Cortes. The main thing we did on the trip to pass the time was talk with the people going to Ocean Falls (one guy was going there for work with for a friend of his and the other two were travelling together going back "home" as they lived there. All of them were very nice people). During the hours of darkness I also utilized the DVD player on the TV to watch DVD's of Season 4 of "Charmed" that I had brought along to watch on my MacBook Laptop. Once it got light and we started talking to the crew that helped pass the time. I also took photos, walked around the cardeck and used my laptop to do paperwork for the business that I am starting. So between all that we were pretty occupied. I also brought snacks and food to eat so we woudn't starve. We actually had been waiting for a chance to travel on the Nimpkish so when I had the time off from work and it was available we went for it. The first night we stayed in Courtney at the Kingfisher Spa and Resort and then travelled to Port Hardy overnighting on the QPR/Nimpkish. After getting off of the Nimpkish we drove straight to Williams Lake staying there and then heading back to Seattle the next day through Whistler and Squamish. In July we can gone the reverse route coming up through Boston Bar staying at Williams Lake and catching the "Queen of Chilliwack" that night heading to Port Hardy with stops at Ocean Falls, Shearwater and McBay (that was my first trip down "the Hill"). I have travelled on the Chilliwack many different ways since 1999 on the Discovery Coast route. It's very enjoyable. We only missed it one year and that was in 2002 when the Chilliwack broke down so we took the Queen of the North R/T from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. We also enjoyed many sailings on her positional cruises from Port Hardy to Tsawwassen. I miss doing those! Once we left Bella Coola we went up the Hill pretty quickly as I was running low on gas and there was no gas stations open in Bella Coola as it was a Sunday. The Hill isn't too bad going either direction just narrow in a couple of spots. I just wouldn't want to meet a semi in a narrow area and have to back up for him. We did see one semi going up the hill during the July trip. We managed to get gas at Aneheim Lake (rule of thump don't assume that the gas stations will be open just anywhere on a Sunday, lol). We had lunch at Nimpo Lake, a very bautiful area. There was some snow as we reached the top of the hill but it was just in the ditches. We didn't see any bear. Just a fox, a moose (in July) and some wild horses. The horses were cool to see. The Chilcotin Plateau area is my favourite of the entire drive to Williams Lake or Bella Coola. The scenery is so different and it's so vast it worth driving it just to see the Plateau. Plus the numerous rocks that are all over it is interesting to see. I was curious where they came from (a volcano somewhere?). The entire drive is beautiful travelling along the Kleena Kleen river, past lovely lakes and through Tweedmeir Park, well worth it. I enjoy Williams Lake as well definetly a nice town to stay in. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

We did the Discovery Coast route last summer on the Queen of Chilliwack. It was a really nice trip. Spent the night in Bella Coola then drove the next day to Williams Lake. That would be a long drive for you leaving Bella Coola at 1pm to Williams Lake. It was long for us leaving at like 10am, lol!
