Here's a thread for photos taken from a ferry or terminal of the scenery, where the ferry isn't the primary focus. ie. sunsets and sunrises, orcas, mountains... =============== Mount Maxwell or Erskine (they look the same to me) on SSI, in the background: -------------------- Sunset as seen through the Q-Alberni's Deck-2 hatch. ---------- C'Inspy in the sunset haze: ---------------- On an evening Route-30 sailing just near the summer-solstice, the sun sets right into the strait: -----------

One of Scott's photos from a February 2007 trip on the Cortes Island route on the Nimpkish. I took this trip with him. The curtain of cloud with the sun-lit coast-mountains behind were amazing to see on a Winter's late afternoon.

Photos taken on December 10, 2009. A cold day of clear weather over Squamish & Langdale, but cloudy further south. A great day for photography from a ferry: ================ Morning view of Entrance Island: Morning view of Mt. Garibaldi: Wall of Mountains at Howe Sound: Clear and Cloudy: the clear divide over-top of the Queen of Surrey: Evening sun on Mt. Garibaldi and the Sunshine Coast, with a curtain of clouds: Just how amazing was this cloud-curtain effect? Here's one final shot:

It's no secret that my favourite south-coast landmark is Mt. Garibaldi. It is elusive, as you can only get short glimpses of it during ferry trips on Routes 2, 3 and 30. Here are some cold-day pictures from December 10, 2009: ============== From Route-3: --------- From Route-2. I had fun playing with different camera settings, and enjoyed a wonderfully back-lit volcano:

Well there's lots of snow now.... And then some. The Olympics were the same way--barest I'd ever seen them this summer and quite snowy now.

Queen of Saanich in a Westcoast sunset. BTW, the pink sky in the middle of that picture (not near the horizon) is actually caused by volcanic ash from Sarychev Peak in the atmosphere.

My 2nd favourite mountain, seen from a ferry route. This is Mt. Doogie Dowler, which can be seen from the Quadra route and the Cortes route. It was named for a former postmaster at Heriot Bay. It's on the BC Mainland, likely at the head of one of the deep inlets. (photos taken December 19, 2009, from Tyee Spit at Campbell River)

Video of us sailing through a long line of log debris. We slowed down quite a bit. I wonder how they find it in the dark? tinypic.com/r/2ufprwh/6

Thanks for the correction, I guess I need to work on my Seaspan vessels Ha ha, to tell you the truth, I had to verify with the 'Working Vessels' thread to be sure... At first I suggested 'Seaspan Challenger', then I quickly edited the post... Okay, I'm not cheating here, so someone please mark this quiz: Seaspan Doris: The one pictured above in this thread. Formerly Doris YorkeSeaspan Greg: Doris's sistership, with a much shorter superstructure. Formerly Greg YorkeSeaspan Challenger: The super-tall tugboat that pushes a barge around. Carrier Princess: The one that Jason posted. If I missed any of the Seaspan ferries, just post it's name, NOT WHICH ONE IT IS, and I'll try to remember which one it is.
