I didn't realize the service would be discontinued? Is that because of the re-introduction of "The Cat" fast ferry?
That scene brings back memories from when I was sailing in and out of there on the Cruise ship, Brilliance of the Seas last fall. Good times navigating back and forth on that bird-poo covered dolphin catwalk in the foreground to read the ship's drafts marks.
Yep, Bay Ferries has taken that service back with the ex-Hawaiian superferry. They used to operate the old 'Cat' out of Bar Harbor. Relocating to Portland makes a lot more sense, and this fast ferry cuts the sailing time in half compared with Nova Star. It's a smaller vessel than Nova Star, too, which means this one might actually pencil out. Nova Star was simply too large a vessel for too few passengers being carried, and I think a lot of people balked at the crossing time as well as the price.
I seem to be going with 3 month rotations on my signatures lately. Haven't planned it that way, but maybe I'll stick with it - we'll see. Anyway, here is my newest one: a brand new Chimacum at Bremerton
And then there was 1. For this go-around, I picked the sole surviving member of the original Spauldings built for BC Ferries. Queen of New Westminster is the last of her kind in the BC Ferries fleet. There is still Coho, of course, the original template for this design.
