"Given that the Stawamus Chief is so evident in the background, I will say it is Nicola sitting somewhere in the Mamquam Blind Channel at Squamish."
Mill Bay, that's right. We were at the Harbour Ferries float for part of a night before returning to Deas. Nicola had replaced the Garibaldi II during a refit.

What Ferry terminal is this? Bonus points for the name of the boat.... I think that I was looking at this same view two days ago while boarding the 11:00 am ferry ( SoVI) at berth 5, Swartz Bay. This is just below the 'skywalk' on the left side as you are boarding the ferry. Then again perhaps BCF's has similar wrap-around small boat 'docks' at other terminals. Names: SWB Slick Licker 1 & SWB Slick Licker 2

In the mean time, I have one for everyone who likes to criticize potholes in the decks: where would you find this pothole?

Queen of New Westminster. ;D Would you leave a footprint in the deck plates on a ship that just had a $55 million dollar refit??? ;D

I'm baffled by this photo from the Provincial Archives. Clearly, it's not Alert Bay, with a ferry that size visible, but I don't recognize any of the major five terminals either.

Funny I thought it was backwards as well and that it was Horseshoe Bay but then it looked like there was too much boat traffic for the age of the picture.

I looked at that photo and thought, that can't be Horseshoe Bay because the terminal's on the wrong side. Doh! Okay, to make up for that, I'll try something more legitimate. Which terminal is this ferry approaching?

Okay, to make up for that, I'll try something more legitimate. Which terminal is this ferry approaching? I'll stir the pot on this one. I have concluded that this ferry is the Tenaka, ex Comox-Queen. - The island in the background does not look correct for it to be Whaletown or Heriot Bay. Could the sides of the ferry be black and tan of the Highways-Ministry? So where could this spot be? I wonder if the bay has a small-rock texture to it? ;D In the background is an island that has a cove named for a car-company and a spit named for a roofing material. And the channel between them is named for #11 of the Montreal Canadians, who scored the winning goal in Game-7 against the Bruins in 1979 (Don Cherry's too-many-men penalty). enough hints to ensure that Neil awards the claret-jug to me?

I will bite on Neil's latest and guess the vessel is the Comox Queen approaching Westview and the date is in the 60's or early 70's. In regard to the earlier backwards photo of HSB that is mis-identified as Alert Bay - It was obvious to me at first glance that this is Horseshoe Bay, although something seemed not quite right. After a few seconds it was apparent that the picture is reversed. I am with FNS on this one - backwards photos are sac-religious. Niel, have you or anyone else contacted the RBCM to correct them re this photo being incorrectly identified & published backward? The data on the Archives site dates the photo from 1967. The ferry colouring, however, looks to be red & white, suggesting that this may be from the Blackball era. The closer vessel looks more like a Spaulding, perhaps the Tsawwassen. That would make the date, at least, the most believable piece of data on the Archives page: www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-447B74E/cgi-bin/text2html/.visual/img_txt/dir_10/i_12217.txt

Okay, to make up for that, I'll try something more legitimate. Which terminal is this ferry approaching? Vessels dock at Westview stern-to, and it looks too far from land to be Hornby for me, so I nominate this intriguing terminal: Sointula.Reasons why: -Just about the correct distance from Vancouver Island to make that photo legit. -Vessel is approaching bow-to.

Re: Neils pic
A very intriguing picture indeed, and puzzling for location for a number of reasons...
We already know it's the Comox Queen aka Tenaka....
So just to randomly throw it out there, I'll say Otter Bay, Pender Island?
If not, then I'd almost have to agree with NewFlyer....
