Is anyone able to get down to Deas to have a look at the berthing situation in Berth 3? The Capilano and Kahloke appear to be sharing the same berth according to Siitech...

I can report that 6 vessels are at Deas currently: ex-Queen of Tsawwassen (as yet not renamed in paint on her bow), Kahloke, Northern Adventure, Queen of Capilano, ex-Queen of Saanich (as yet not renamed in paint on her bow), Spirit of British Columbia.

What about the klitsa? Last we heard she was rafted along side the kahloke. Is she still there?

Currently there are 3 'Westminster' tugs at Deas. None of the ferries are currently showing up on Siitech but the tugs appear to be in the area of the Queen of Tsawwassen, along the north shoreline. It's either the last day at Deas for the ol' girl, or they're just waiting there before helping pull out one of the refit vessels.

She was not there a few minutes ago. Perhaps they will be moving her.

Turns out they are pulling out the Northern Adventure from its berth. The NorAd is currently on its way out to the Strait.

There's some action currently going on at Deas, as 3 Westminster tugs are there right now. They appear to be around the vicinity of the Tsawwassen, but perhaps they are simply waiting for the arrival of the Northern Adventure, which is currently passing by Tsawwassen Terminal right now, coming from Esquimalt.
Regardless, something is coming to or going from Deas this afternoon. . .maybe both!

The Norad did arrive at Deas last night and is now sitting at berth 6 where the Tsawassen was previously.

As mentioned in this thread, the Queen of Vancouver is currently arriving at Deas. In addition, the Queen of Capilano is currently on her way out of Deas. Perhaps this was required in order to free up berth space for the Vancouver, but I think there's still one Berth available. If so, I would think the free Berth is available for either the Capilano (just going out for some trials) or the Chilliwack (upon returning from Esquimalt Drydock).

I did a drive-by yesterday on the way out to Steveston. Not sure of the berth numbers, but the Queen of Saanich, Queen of Vancouver, Queen of Prince Rupert are all still there along with the Tenaka and Klitsa.

And, my photo of 08-11-2009 below confirms this. This was taken aboard a Beechcraft 1900 of Pacific Coastal Airlines on a flight from CYVR to CYZT. We used Runway 8R and flew east before turning right to head up northwest for my first ride aboard the NORTHERN EXPEDITION the next morning.

With the Northern Expedition on her way to Deas as I type, I'm wondering what they are going to do about the lack of berth space. There are 3 retired ships sitting idle, taking up space right now. I don't know which ships are sitting in which berth, but right now the ex-Vancouver, ex-Saanich, ex-QPR, Coquitlam, Klitsa, and Chilliwack are all sitting in some sort of berth. According to my count, there should be one major berth available still, earmarked for the NorEx.
Assuming the Coquitlam leaves soon, there will be another berth freed up. Refit season is fast approaching, and there will be an influx of ships needing berth space. Will they boot the retired ships out and moor them somewhere else, a la Sidney or Princess Jaqueline? (yes, I'm aware they are owned by other parties, but I see no reason why BCF couldn't rent moorage somewhere)

Yes, quite the activity going on right now at Deas. It looks like they are relocating the Chilliwack to a different position before bringing the Northern Expedition in to dock. I'm sure they are thinking how nice it would be if some of the retired ferries were sold and gone from Deas.
