I've been moving much of the recent posts of CP BC Coast Service general items to this here thread.

Recently added these to the collection--3 of the Princess Norah. The icy one is my favorite.

The featured artist for the month of February 2014 at Nanaimo Museum is ship artist Jack Hardcastle. - a number of his paintings will be on display. I hope to visit it, in a few weeks. Here is a link to some of his work: JACK

Too cold to do much of anything outside today, so I took advantage of being indoors and finally scanned my C.P.R. postcard collection and loaded it into Flickr. These are all ships that served the coast of British Columbia and will upload more as I acquire them. some of my personal faves include the Sophia and Victoria being used as troop ships during WWI, the Adelaide aground in Active Pass, the Charmer after her collision with Tartar and the Kathleen after colliding with the GTP steamship Prince Rupert. For those of you that share a passion of an era of transportation long since gone, enjoy! www.flickr.com/photos/116449394@N05/

I need to do more than just hit "Like" Thanks very much sir, for doing that scanning work, and for sharing that link with us. I really appreciate it.

I'm new here, but I have a favor to ask. Does anyone have a decent quality profile drawing of the Princess of Nanaimo?

Try asking another member here, mrdot. He has a very impressive collection of drawings. I'm sure he'd have one of her.

We have no dedicated thread for the long-departed Princess Sophia (pronounced 'so-f'eye-ah', not 'so-fee-ah') so I will put this item here...
Princess Sophia memorial in Dawson City, Yukon - 19 August 2014 [© WCK-JST]. (That is my wife, Elizabeth, on the left.) The loss of this Canadian Pacific west coast steamer on 25 October of 1918 remains the worst North American west coast marine disaster. Every man, woman & child aboard perished - 343 lives to be exact. A large number of Yukoners were among them. The effect on Dawson City was profound. A few days later, in Europe, an armistice was signed bringing the 'Great War' to a close. All photos © WCK-JST Note to moderators: If these photos are over-sized I will fix them when I get home where the process is a little less laborious then it is when on the road. Great shot of the memorial plaque. I wasn't aware that one even existed. Note to Jim and moderators: For the love of murphy, don't make that plaque picture any smaller, I'll need to buy a stronger pair of reading glasses.

Anyone who has the book Those Beautiful Coastal Liners, I'm thinking of buying it from Amazon, but I'd like to know if it includes information about CP's Princess Helene, such as outboard profile and deck plan.

No mention of the east coast's Princess Helene at all. The book is about the BC Coast Service ships. I'm looking at my book, on my desk in front of me, right now.

I see, I was hoping it might, I've been searching for an outboard profile of that ship for some time now, to no avail.

I have just had a look at Robert Turner's other west coast Princess book ( The Pacific Princesses) and there are two mentions of the Princess Helene, but no photos, drawings, etc. Both of Turner's books are, after all, focused on the Pacific side of this continent.

the way to research the CPR's east coast Princesses is to go to Geo. Musk's Canadian Pacific Afloat, and there is a little data and photo of this the 'Digby boat' mrdot.

Would there be anyway to scan that outboard profile and send it to me via email doesn't have to be fancy, as I'm assuming finding another copy somewhere might prove to be difficult. I've been trying to do a series of drawings similar to what whidbeyislandguy did awhile back, just for fun and outboard profiles are my bread and butter so to speak. I have outboard profiles for the entire fleet expect the Helene, which has eluded me for quite some time. I have turner's Pacific Princesses which includes pretty much everything, minus the Helene, the rail ferries. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Princess Helene - profile drawing of the "Fundy Boat" - Mr. DOT collection. This CPR Princess boat operated across the Bay of Fundy, between New Brunswick & Nova Scotia. It was never part of the CPR's BC Coast Service. It was, nevertheless, 'kin'. Larger version here Princess Helene (the Fundy boat) scanned from a magazine print of a photo of a model of the PH - DOT collection

Lasted until 1981, with a brief interruption of service in 1979-80.
