seems a short sighted move on bcf's part. I bet the first 60 car loads of people left behind would want to have words with those that make the decision to take them out of service. Howe often are they used in summer. I've nver seen them being used on all the trips I've taken, even in summer seasons. The morning sails I took from Tsawassen I've been on were at capacity, but yet never saw the ramps being used. A better solution would be just to replace the machinery and bring the structures up to code, so that the Spirit ferries have the wing decks available when needed. I saw them used (and used them myself) on a couple long-weekend sailings when I was too young to bother to take pictures.

They are rarely if ever used anymore. They were used when traffic got REALLY bad and delays would be backing up beyond just the next sailing. The most frequent time to see them used was if the last sailing of the day was overloaded. The ramps took a lot of time to deploy, especially after TC changed the rules regarding loading procedures. I can't remember what specifically they changed, but it added time to the process and removed about 20 cars from the platform capacity. The OT incurred by using the ramps became prohibitive most of the time.

The OT incurred by using the ramps became prohibitive most of the time. If they had to follow anything like the same rules as the Burnaby/Nanaimo, it could have been the fact that they weren't allowed to park cars on the actual apron that would lower right down to the main deck. The last time I remember seeing them used on the SOVI was summer of 2008. I have photo proof of this, which was June 8th, 2008 to be exact. I remember seeing these be used I think one more time in 2009, and that was it. Here are photos of it from 2008. You can also see that the cars were parked fore and aft of "the hinge" for the apron that would lower down to the main deck.

The Steering Gear on the NIP has gone down and Sailings are cancelled while repairs take place. For the time being, Water Taxi Service will Run Between Westview and the Van Anda Govt. Wharf. I have a view of the Van Anda Dock and right now I can see a line of parked cars in front of the Dock.

No service notice, but the Queen of Alberni is only making about 15 knots and departed Duke Point 19 minutes late on the 7:45 sailing. Let's hope that the mechanical issues she's experiencing can be fixed while underway, otherwise it might be an interesting day on Route 30... Late Edit: Service notice here.

I'm about to travel on the Alberni for her 10:15am sailing. It's 10:30am and she's almost into the dock. Ticket agent and crew member from the Alberni has advised me of the ship operating under one engine for the day.

The Alberni is underway making just over 15 knots. is the coq available or in re-fit I would suspect the Alberni will probably need to be taken out of service to have the problem fixed. the New west or the CR may be needed to fill the Alberni's slot

I was aboard for the Alberni's 10:15am sailing this morning. She didn't depart Tsawwassen until 11:00am, and arrived at Duke Point at 1:30, making it a two and a half hour crossing. Long day for the crew, totaling it to be about 11 hours for the morning watch. Probably a little more for the afternoon watch, who'd all have been waiting for the ship to arrive since 2:30pm at Tsawwassen.
Keep in mind that the Tsawwassen crews are not trained on the Marin Ark Chutes that the other 4 C-Class vessels hold. So that cuts any of them out for replacement service. The New West would more than likely be the candidate to replace her. I would be really surprised to see the Renaissance redeployed to Tsawwassen for Dual Coastal Service on Route 30.
Good times!

I wonder if they'll use the New West on the 2015 sailing tonight with the route 1 crew?

The Alberni has cancelled her scheduled 1745 and 2015 round trip, and will remain at Duke Point until the 2245 sailing. She'll move out of the berth to allow the Inspiration in for her 2015 sailing. If anyone is free, this will be a good photo opportunity!

If anyone is free, this will be a good photo opportunity! I saw this from up on the Nanaimo Parkway by the University, so a "from up on high" view. But I was driving, so no photo. But the 'Alberni was waiting, in the freighter parking-lot area, behind Protection Island where it meets Newcastle Island.

Celebration delayed 70 minutes due to mechanical problems. No service notice issued. SOVI currently 29 minutes delayed after making one round trip south of Saturna rather than through Active Pass. For the Celebration, the 70 miniute delay is an error. The current conditions page shows that the Celebration left TSA at 1410h. The SOVI is 90 minutes behind schedule as it left TSA at 1429h. The SOVI's 1500h and 1700h departures have been canceled.
There is a service notice for the SOVI.
Update as of 10:08 am:
Please be advised that the Spirit of Vancouver Island is currently operating 1hr and 10 minutes behind schedule due to mechanical difficulties.

The SOVI remained in port at SWB for the rest of the day. The Celebration did an extra round trip at 2000h from SWB and 2200h from TSA.
Update as of 6:40pm:
Please be advised that the Coastal Celebration will be resuming sailings in place of the Spirit of Vancouver Island between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen tonight:
Departing Swartz Bay terminal 8:00pm
Departing Tsawwassen terminal 10:00pm
[a href="www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=666679 "]www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=666679 [/a] [/b][/i] I thought the NW would also do an additional round trip. The 2200h is 94% full and is 26 minutes behind schedule. The SBC is 22 minutes behind schedule. The SOVI took 127 minutes on its final crossing of the day. [/font]

Looks like the Tenaka is sailing 60 mins. behind schedule due to a marine emergency.
