An aside: The Food Network TV show "Pitchin In" aired an episode featuring Island Scallops.
In addition to using the Rhody for work, wouldn't it be nice if they added a tourism side to their company which brings customers out onto the Rhody for an inside look at their operation. They could also utilize the interior space for some kind of unique food service. I know. . .only a ferry fanatic can dream up things like these. . .but if only it came true. . .

And, restore the RHODY GALLEY that was taken off in 1991. You'd get "Scallops Surprise" instead of "Old Fashioned Ferryboat Hot Dogs".

Chef Lynn was funny in that Episode. She is just as passionate and nutty in person. If you ever get to Toronto and can book months in advance, reserve a table at her restaurant Ruby Watchco. Not every day you get to have a Four Seasons global chef oversee your meal in a more intimate setting. I ate a meal once at the Four Seasons here when she was Chef, and before she went to NYC. Of course the food was amazing but intimidating and overly complex at the same time. But that is what the setting and public were demanding at that level. But when you see that other nutty and passionate side of her, you can see how being a Chef at the Four Seasons level can also be constraining. I think Island Scallops has found that having water based facilities probably saves a lot in taxes, development fees, water, sewage etc etc. Good to see historic watercraft re-purposed creatively and put to use. I sure am a fan of their product!!

Has the Rhody headed North yet ? You never know about Seafood Companies as far as they do move their factory ships around some at least in Alaska. Maybe she will be back (wishful thinking ?) in these's waters someday as she will still be under the American flag and own by a US company in NJ.

Interesting to note that while the ship has the AIS turned on (normal) it does though show up on vessel watch: This will be the last glance at the Rhody from the Tacoma, Wenatchee and Chelan. Hopefully the Kitsap will be in mid-sound fast so that her crew can give a final goodbye to the little ferry that could.

We will be monitoring the MV Rhododendron's position and live-tweeting it at @wcf_Forum.

The RHODY is closing into Victoria. And, you don't see this on a WSF vessel, a pilots order: With the RHODY in Canada, we'll no longer see a US flag at each end aboard her. She'll get a Red Maple Leaf at one end and the US flag at the other end.

Don't go near Esquimalt Harbour, Rhododendron! The Queen of Chilliwack is currently in dry dock at EGD and that's a sight you don't need to see, even in darkness. Joking aside, she's currently waiting for her pilot to arrive aboard Pacific Scout.

The question is, what do you do with the engines? If you are going to pay to remove them, there must be a market willing to pay more or is the metal value worth it.
OR
I am thinking the cost of weight comes down to the seafood and processing.

At 0640PDT, the RHODODENDRON meets a BC ferry for the first time. COASTAL INSPIRATION. Ferries having the same last letter in their names, to say the least. About two or so hours from Nanaimo and a possible meeting with the QUEEN OF ALBERNI before the crew meets Canadian Customs.
