Quite a sleek she is, especially when she's speeding across Georgia Strait.
Oh, and Brian, it's great to have you back on this forum again.

Yes she is, looks like a neat ship to ride on, if I ever had a reason to take a trip on her! I seen her from the air as she has been speeding out of Naniamo!

yeah, I've used it but only at school, and now that I've graduated I don't know how I'll get to compressing files, unless I use my Yahoo! Photo account they do it for you, but only works for jpegs, not GIF's or PNG's.

It is nice to see the Harbourlynx again, I went on her on a monday in January, 10th I think. I was expecting to see the Quinsam on the 11:00 sailing from Nanaimo, but I didn't.

I was at Nanaimo dragon-boat races today, at Nanaimo harbour. I had nice views of the Quinsam and the HarbourLynx.
HarbourLynx looks so tall & narrow when she's coming head-on.
Sorry Harry, Quinsam doesn't do anything for me (other than take me to Gabriola if I want to go there).

Great pics, and very inviting, but I hope that wasn't on a revenue trip!
I'd like to see those seats full of happy travellers.

Nanaimo Daily News had a story in today's or yesterday's paper, about a lady who lives in Nanoose, who is strongly urging the Nanaimo civic gov't to "do something" to restore a commuter ferry service from Nanaimo to Vancouver.
Maybe the article is just poorly written re her quote, but it gave the distinct impression that the Nanoose lady has a sense-of-entitlement. She complains about a long commute to vancouver now on BC FErries, from her Nanoose home to her Vancouver job.
It doesn't mention her reasons for choosing to live on an island and work on the mainland, but the story ends with a quote of her saying that her salary in Vancouver is double what she could make in Nanaimo.
So I guess she wants to have her cake, and eat it too. Sounds like someone is living an unrealistic lifestyle. If you want to work in Vancouver to earn those big-city-bucks, then maybe you should live there too.
So she makes bigger money in Vancouver, saves money by living in Nanoose, is getting burnt-out by the very long daily commute, and expects Nanaimo city government (which she doesn't pay taxes to, as she lives in Nanoose) to "do something" to make her get-rich-dream more easy.
Obscene sense of entitlement?
I'm all for working-hard to get ahead, and in taking advantage of opportunities.......but don't expect a local-gov't to help you out with that.
What do you people think?

Wow, I'm amazed. No one here in ND would do something like that (try and live in ND, take the boat to Victoria, and expect something out of the local Gov't) and our G'vot would not even lift a finger, Lois Jackson probably would not bother, even though she's the type of person that would try to make everyone happy. I think she has a better chance with George Bush then with the Nanaimo City Gov't.
BTW, you only make a city Gov't happy if you pay your taxes to their city.
Ugh, awful, awful.
she should take part in one of those "Get Rich Quick" schemes. She's got better luck making money there then she does with her Island-Mainland carreer.

I'm a bit in the same situation. So don't shoot me. Me and my family will be moving to Nanaimo this summer and the thought was for me to commute to Vancouver every day - at that time the Harbourlynx was still there. My boss agreed to set up a new satellite office but only if it would be in Vancouver, because that's where most ad agencies are. So I will have to commute to with BC Ferries now. It 's not that I dont want to work in Nanaimo - I just can't. (No jobs there) But we can't afford housing on the main land either and we love Vancouver Island. So hopefully those Chinese investors that the newspapers are talking about won't waste time and will invest in a new foot passenger service. It' s something Nanaimo definitely needs back! future bc'er

I don't blame you a bit, even though it sounds like a hectic lifestyle. Commuting with BC Ferries will be frustrating, with the constant schedule changes. But hey, lot's of people do it! What are your thoughts/opinions of Harbourlynx going under? I trust it will make your life more difficult, thus having to use DPTB-HSB every day, and having the 30 minute drive into Vancouver.

I am still wondering why Harbourlynx did go under, only because it owed about $5m to the government or bank? Is that the only reason? Good god, what is the world coming to?

Good god, what is the world coming to? what are you questioning, Harry? $5m is debt is a lot for a small company. And if they can't make payments, or if they require more debt just to operate, then it's a problem.

Yeah, I realise that, but why would they shut down such a reliable and useful connection?
