Lemme See. The Engine was Busted and they had the bonus of being in debt. Might need some government support to get back on the sea again.

Yeah, I realise that, but why would they shut down such a reliable and useful connection? Who do you mean by "they" ? If you mean the bank, it would have been to protect the bank against further bad-loan losses.

Why the Group that runs the Harbourlynx of course

It wasn't a bank, it was a group of Investors, 2 people that were acting as underwriters for the vessel.

So lemme see, Harbourlynx is lost and no one is going to take it over? How shameful.

Unless somebody like the people who run the Victoria Clippers buy it they're done. Would be intresting if BC Ferries was to buy it which would never happen. Unless there was a dramatic increase in foot passenger volume

well, I'm really sad that the Harbourlynx is gone... My only luck is that the office will be in North Van so I won't have to go through downtown. In the case of a passenger ship I would have taken a bike onto the Harbourlynx and then the Seabus to get to the office from the Seabus terminal in North Van... I really (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) a new service will replace the Harbourlynx

The Harbourlynx ran from Nanaimo Downtown to Vancouver Downtown, not North Vancouver. North Vancouver is only accessible from Nanaimo to go onto the Seabus at Canada Place. BCFerries isn't bad, but Harbourlynx was better. There is still a plan to use the Pacificats from Duke Point to Downtown Vancouver by Seaspan, that could come into action in a few years.

Hem Hem... "In the case of a passenger ship I would have taken a bike onto the Harbourlynx and then the Seabus to get to the office from the Seabus terminal in North Van... " I think Future BCer meant: "In the case of a passenger ship I would have taken a bike onto the Harbourlynx and then the Seabus to get to the office from the Seabus terminal in Downtown Van..."

Harry, I'm very confident that your interpretation is incorrect, and that your interpretation is unique. I know what future BC-er is saying. It was pretty clear to me that he takes the harbourlynx to downtown vancouver, takes the seabus to north-van, and then rides his bike to his office somewhere in north-van.

'Nanaimo, I read that story in the Nanaimo paper, and my first reaction was to the shoddy journalism- why carry a story like that if you aren't going to develop it and give it some context. One person, who has a terrible commute from Nanaimo to Vancouver, and that's it. Gawd, is the Daily News so full they don't have room for more background? I'm not sure she was expecting anyone to give her subsidized service, but it is amazing to me that people would think to live so far away from where they work, and complain when they have a long commute. Perhaps we are a rather pampered lot.

Does anyone have any hard numbers as to typical daily commuters traveling from Nanaimo to Vancouver?
And also general idea of non commuters numbers on a daily or monthly basis?
Any details would be appreciated.
Regards,
Robin

so what's up with the rumours that investors (some sources said even from the mainland) were looking into investing in Harbourlynx? There was even a meeting planned but that got cancelled last month... Why is it that such an interesting project as the Harbourlynx has no chance of convincing potential investors to go ahead with a new strategy. I'm commuting now with BC Ferries - it's a long trip but I survive as I can do work on the ferry without wasting too much time. Although wireless internet connection would be nice to have on the ferries... Harbourlynx could save me some time though... wishing you were here
