Can I talk one of you with a better seance of history than myself (and more importantly with access to primary sources) to write a Wikipedia entry for Philip F. Spaulding & Associates?
I would like to then cross-reference a lot of Spaulding designs to that page.
Thank you, and Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I could not really come up with the correct place.

Ok, I've got a page setup. Anyone here (who has a wikipedia account) can edit it if theres anything needed. And to the Mods or others who have negative comments on this, PLEASE DO NOT DI'S ME ON THIS. To anyone who likes it have fun editing. By the way Di's (to me) means do not annoy me with the negative comments.

Here's a link to your page for others to view... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_F._SpauldingOkay, now you can add information about Alaska's Blue Canoes that he designed, and his WSF designs. Spaulding also designed many other ships. Write up about his company, and its eventual merger with Nickum... Plus you'll need some information on his life. Birth year, death year, cause of death, where he lived, etcetera. Get to work ;D

Phil Spaulding was born on Nov.27, 1912. - he died on May 5, 2005 from here (bottom of this page): www.faqs.org/people-search/spaulding-born-in-1912/Yes, November 2012 will be a very special month on this forum, as we celebrate Phil's 100th birthday. - You can guess what our forum-flagship theme will be for Nov.2012.....

Better have a look on the page. Also I added two websites.
Spaulding died at the age of 92 in 2005. If he was born in 1912 he would have been 93. Better do the math.

My professional accounting designation and my 17 years as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia tell me that if Phil was born in November 1912 (as my reference said), and died in May 2005 (as both our references said), he would have been 92 years, 5 months and a few days old when he died.

I'm not going to be involved in this. I trust you (absolulty) but theres another side (of me) that says other things. I dont want to talk about it. Thats why Wikipedia is a free site, but their very pushy. It is open to any expert with an account. but if the site is deleted or modified I don't care.
I'm keeping it classified, but there was a few things deleted (Facts I wrote) that I did in the past on the site. That isn't classiefied, but I resently got back on my account and made some changes to some modifications and it seemed Wikipedia was happy with what I did.

You stepped up to write the article, so you should finish what you started! We didn't decide to write it because we have no desire to. You already got involved by writing the article, so don't step back now.

Watch it, I stepped up to create the page because no one here wanted too. Also I'm waiting till tomorrow to see if It gets deleted. If it doesn't I will be happy, I'm not going to go further cause I don't have all the facts. DON'T PUSH IT. I will add stuff when I get it. I am also currently working on other wikipedia pages at times. And non internet stuff like school and my stories I write.
I started it, now its up to who over. I will add stuff when it comes time.
I'm not the greatest writer (minus my stories I write in free time), I'm a great fact collector.
To me Wikipedia is a free historical library (Don't say anything) I know there are stuff that is wrong. I can pick up on whats wrong and right.

The info on the Wiki site incorrectly (to my knowledge) attributes the designs of several of the BC Ferries to Spaulding. This includes:
1 - Q of the Islands (Quebec design, Spaulding had nothing to do with it). 2 - Powell River class - all 3 boats - I am fairly certain the Spaulding company had nothing to do with these vessels 3 - 'Other individual ships' such as what? Again, I am pretty much certain that there are/were no other Spaulding designs in the BCF fleet.
The V/B class - Spaulding designed the Vancouver & Victoria, after which BCF's outright purchased the rights to the design. Subsequent modifications, such as tiny changes that lead people to call the B's a separate class, was (AFAIK) all design work done in house, or by other naval architect firms. This also goes for the subsequent stretching & lifting of the 'Seven Sisters'.
BC Ferries vessels built from plans originally prepared by Spaulding & Associates are these: - Sidney class (2 vessels) - Seven Sisters (V/B class) (7 vessels) - C class (5 vessels) Total = 14 vessels. That in itself is fairly impressive.

:)further on the Spaulding - BC ferries connection, the initial design featrues of all the V`s was amended in later years by Case labs., in esquimalt, some of the work on the spirits and QPR was sub-let to K. Hansen of Denmark, and the Montreal firm did the Queen of the Islands, which is part of the reason this design was not suitable to our coast! - thats life on the coast! :)mrdot.

I've moved this thread here, to general discussion, because Mr. Spaulding's legacy is still reflected in the current BCF fleet, as well as in the current Washington SF and Alaska MHS fleets.

Based on the list of Spaulding ships found ferriesbc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generaltalk&action=display&thread=8417, I have created (with a lot of help from a user named Brianhe) a Wikipedia template of Spaulding ships that can be seen at the bottom hullnumber's page ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_F._Spaulding). Many of the older vessels (especially those of the BC Ferries) do not have Wikipedia pages. I would like to link them to images, or to outside web pages of their own. My understanding (which could be flawed) is that if there is a worthwhile external website, I can link directly (such as what I did for the Miller Freeman), but linking directly to a Photobucket photo is not appropriate. So, with respect to art and private collections, I have two questions for the group. The first is does anyone know of external fan sites for any of these ships that can be linked? My second question; does anyone have pictures of these ships that they would not mind donating to the WikiCommons, with the understanding that they are giving up ownership of the photos? I have very much enjoyed this project, and the ability to look at Mr. Spaulding's work across the West Coast. Thank you.
