Yes, Flickr is recommended in spite of there annoying habit of making 'improvements' once or twice per year. The WCFF has a Flickr group 'pool' you might like to check out: West Coast Ferries Forum

The front page of this thread should be edited to reflect the fact that Flickr has surpassed Photobucket in terms of photo sharing in recent years.

So, Thank you for the advice, that Flickr is the best thing that has ever happened to this world. I have created an account on Flickr, with the username SnowyFerries. I do wonder how it will turn out. Thanks. EDIT________________________________________________________________ Off to a rocky start: I can't seem to get an image to show up here on the forum. Ok, so once you've uploaded your photos to Flickr, you have to insert the BBCode into a forum post. The BBCode for your photo would be found in the bottom right when you're logged into Flickr. There you'll see the "Grab HTML/BBCode" option. Copy the entire text from there, and paste it into your Forum post.

Hmm, still can't get it to work... It's difficult to decipher at what step you're having issues with. We can't help if you just keep saying "it doesn't work." Please elaborate a little.

So, I try to insert the BBcode into my forum post, however, the image does not show up on the forum. Ok, if you copy and paste the entire BBcode, there shouldn't be any issues. It would be a clickable photo with the flickr caption at the bottom. Example: Boating in Howe Sound by Howe Sound Ferries, on Flickr Also, don't forget to adjust the size of the photo in the BBcode box, as the limit on the forum is 1024x768. Now for photos without a title. Say you posted a photo to flickr but want to keep it private. Then you'd want to only copy and paste the essential code. Here's how to do it: [img]BBcode to image here[/img][/url] And here's the BBcode you'd insert for the above photo: farm6.staticflickr.com/5614/15003585694_5d9547288d_b.jpg. Make sense? Feel free to ask any more questions if it isn't clear.

You can switch between the two at the bottom of the full-on Reply editor. I don't know how photos work with the visual editor, but I'm sure they work in the BBCode one.

I use the Preview editor 99% of the time. However, if I'm taking a quote from another thread I have to use the BBcode editor of course. What I like to do is click BBcode, then go back to preview just to make sure the photos came through before I hit "Create Post."

SolDuc & Cascadian Transport, you two know each other personally, right? The best way to teach someone how to do things is to sit beside them & 'coach' them. First you ( SolDuc) do a Flicker to the WCFF photo upload showing him ( Cascadian Transport) how, and then you switch & let him (SF) do it with you (SD) 'coaching' him. That ought to work like a charm. SF, once you get proficient with how you do this, be selective with what you post to the forum. In general, long posts with multitudes of photos should be avoided unless you have a real story to tell. WCK

Does anybody here use photobucket? On several attempts in recent months, I've been finding it virtually impossible to use. Repeated attempts to log in, extremely slow in accessing any part of my library, interminable uploads. I'm not on Hornby, where the Telus internet is extremely slow, and it doesn't matter which browser I use. Very frustrating.

I mostly use Flickr, but I do put some things on Photobucket such as my 'sig' photos. I have not experienced the sort of issues that you describe, Neil. When I start Photobucket I am automatically logged in. I'm not sure if that is a good idea. I much prefer Flickr as a photo host Wett Coast Jim.

Many of us have traditionally used Photobucket for our more casual uploads - signature pictures, banners / headers, and other images that would be an odd fit on our respective Flickr pages. Personally, Photobucket became unusable for me about two years ago, and so I have now shifted everything to my Flickr, and left my Photobucket account behind. Flickr has worked exceptionally well and it's highly functional. The interface is simple, uncluttered, it's easy to organize, and it's reasonably fast. I x2 on all of WCK's comments.

If you were to use some kind of adblocker I think you'd find it would be much quicker.

I am one of the members here affected by this change. I have always kept my 'sig' pics on photo (crap) bucket. Needless to say, @ $400 (US) per year I won't be using them anymore. For now my current 'sig' is hosted on my 'Drop Box' account.

I'm totally clueless at learning new procedures for stuff like this... I gave up trying to figure out how to do it from flickr.

I didn't think about the repercussions from photobucket's disgusting decision to disallow posting photos to sites like this, but looking at all the deleted shots, is it accurate to say that every photo that anyone ever posted from photobucket is now gone from this forum? If so, what a huge chunk of our maritime record has been lost, and I wonder if flickr might follow suit and try to force people to pay for what we've always done.

Once the best choice for photosharing, it has suffered under the negligence of Yahoo's ownership. With Yahoo's recent change in ownership, who knows how the new management team will view the product.

Does anyone know of a reasonably reliable photo sharing site seeing as P.B. and Flickr have become useless to us. I agree with 'Neil' that indeed we are much the poorer for having our photo-history "scuttled" by platform owners who are totally hard-wired into the almighty profit, at all costs business model. SAD!

No, I strongly disagree ... Flickr remains IMHO as the best choice at present for hosting your photos both as a of gallery of your work, and for use on other sites such as this forum. It has not done any sort of 'photobucket' on us yet, and no indication that it will (though anything is possible). All criticism of 'photobucket', however, is more than justified. Several years ago a lot of Flickr users (including me) were not happy with Flickr because of there habit of introducing wholesale changes on their site which we perceived as making it less functional. They seem to have 'got the message' and change now is more gradual, & I think well thought out. I have no hesitation today in recommending Flickr as a host for your photos. Does anyone here have any experience with ' 500px.com' as a host?

I've noted here before that Flickr was basically the first inexpensive, easy to use cloud storage for photos. They were a pioneer with a groundbreaking interface. Like most of the companies that Yahoo purchased from the late 90s to the mid 2000s, they bought them out and proceeded to do absolutely nothing with them. The AOL/Time Warner merger was one of the greatest business value destroying mergers of all time. The dust hasn't settled from Yahoo yet, but they certainly did plenty of value destruction over the years. Here's hoping the new ownership can revitalize the platform. Additionally, for large collections like that of the late friend-of-the-forum and friend of mine Zack Willhoite, if the service had shut down as some had feared would happen under Verizon's ownership, his digital transportation photography collection would be lost to time. If the service is revitalized and SmugMug can make a going concern out of it, then I'm sure his photos will just hangout, in stasis, for perpetuity.
