Has everyone seen the new safety pamphlets on board the ferries? They are ship-specific and fold out to include a map of the passenger decks with locations of life-saving equipment and amenities. I'm sorry I don't have a scan of one at the moment. So far I've found these on all the ferries, however the smallest ferry I've been on in the past 4 months is the ISLAND SKY. Do even the smaller ships in the fleet have them too? I'm planning to be on the POWELL RIVER QUEEN and TACHEK next week, so I will check those too, but some of you guys could probably tell me. It's interesting that BC Ferries can afford to print these and not a paper schedule (I did find a single page paper shedule for the Sunshine Coast routes). Perhaps having this information accessible is to comply with Transport Canada regulations? I kind of doubt that, but you never know. I'm always excited about a new (free) collectable They don't have schedules anymore and they seem to have given up on collectable postcard... so anything new is good!

The smallest vessels I have seen these brochures on are the Island Sky/Capilano/Cumberland. I could not see them on the Mayne Queen or the Bowen Queen. Since February I have managed to collect brochures for the Island Sky, Capilano, Cumberland, Burnaby, Nanaimo, New West, Oak Bay, Surrey, Coquitlam, Cowichan, Alberni, SOVI, SOBC, CC, CR, and CI. This probably means I am missing the NorEx, NorAD, and Chilliwack.

Wow, have you travelled on all those ferries since February or found some extras on other ferries? I found ISLAND SKY brochures on the QUEEN OF BURNABY, but no other cross-overs - not that I looked closely.

When the Bowen was on Route 7 she had Island Sky pamphlets. None for her though. I could see them making some for the other Intermediate Sized Vessels, I could see BCF doing some for the New Minor Vessels whenever they start building them. More likely they either won't do it or just have Promotional Brochures when a new vessel comes into service.
Also I notice that these brochures come in 2 types. One with the Life Ring and the other is a picture taken of the NorEx's Bridge Wing looking forward. I can't name off what was different about both right now but they are very similar.

I wonder who would ever bother reading these things, other than ferry fans? Like John, I wonder if the printing is mandated by Transport Canada; it doesn't seem worth the waste of paper, especially when they are refusing to print far more useful schedules.
Those recorded PA announcements about how to put on life jackets are also probably a TC thing. I've heard those things umpteen times, but I couldn't tell you anything about what they say, other than at one point the voice says "Good", as if you've done it properly.

The cheesy "Good" part always cracks me up. ;D

A few of the trips were solely for the purpose of obtaining a brochure

I have seen one of those pamphlets on the Queen of Surrey. It's likely a TC requirement. I quite agree with Neil re. the worthiness for the average joe public.
I'm quite sure that lifering photo is from a Coastal ship, taken on deck 5. The other photo being in the location on the NorEx that shiprider mentioned.
