Coastal Celebration closes in on Duke Point Terminal, Nanaimo, at end of a morning sailing from Tsawwassen 12 September 2024
Ugly hulks to look at, particularly end on... but very efficient vehicle carriers, with a pretty good array of passenger facilities. Bit of a dilemma for ferry fans, in terms of making up one's mind.

The passenger space on the Coastal class is sure overkill on route 30 & that is with deck 5 closed.

Coming back from Duke Point a couple of weeks ago, I was thinking that it was just about time to open deck five... there were a lot of people onboard.

BC Ferries has made a smart sort of 'fine tuning' decision to switch the Coastal Celebration to route 30, and the ' Inspiration to route one. I was a bit clueless this evening when I asked the steward why the Duke Point end of the ' Celebration's deck 6 was completely closed. He reminded me that that had been the buffet, which I should have remembered they've done away with. I guess that area hasn't been re-purposed, so it's a dead zone. If it can't be used, it's definitely a detriment on route one. Not so much on route 30, although today, the sailings I took in both directions were quite busy in terms of seating.

Which part of the ferry is this? I don't remember any of the Coastals having a Pacific Buffet, and last time I went on the Coastal Celebration all the parts of the ferry were open.

As I recall, Coastal Celebration was the only Coastal to get the buffet. 'Renaissance' had (has) the Sitka Coffee Place, and I'm not sure about 'Inspiration' - maybe it also has Sitka Coffee Place. It's been a number of years since I've been on any of the Coastals and my memory is definitely a bit fuzzy on the details.

Both the Coastal Renaissance and Coastal Inspiration have Sitka Coffee Place which could theoretically could upgrade to Pacific Buffet.

Coastal Celebration has replaced the Queen of Alberni until mid December. I gather that this means no third vessel for route 1, so no extra Friday/Sunday even hour sailings ...

Yep. I wonder how Spirit refits will happen specifically the Spirit of Vancouver Island?

I would assume one either Coastal Inspiration or Coastal Celebration will be going to into next phrase drive motor fixes in January because BC Ferries wants to have all them done by summer of 2025 and Coastal Renaissance has been in refit since October 2 and refits usually take a month to do.

Has the Coastal Renaissance been getting its drive motor refit at Esquimalt? If all the Coastals get their refits around this time, there will be no space for the Queen of New Westminster to get her drydocking done.

Coastal seem to be in drydock for few weeks.
