I just sailed by it on Route 1. A bit too far away to get a picture of but looked pretty interesting!

Coastal Renaissance arrived at Departure Bay last Sunday night and has been there ever since. I see that the Coastal Inspiration is sailing today - thought she was supposed to be out for maintenance? Is something wrong with the Renaissance?

With the Spirit of BC in Poland Coastal Renaissance was taken off of the Departure Bay- Horseshoe Bay run early this year and will be in Fall of 2018 also when the Spirit of VI goes to Poland.
As a result Renaissance along with the other major ships has their annual refit periods slightly modified. Renaissance usually is taken of the Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay run right after Thanksgiving and has her refit before heading south to rt 1.
The reason why the Inspiration is on the Swartz Bay run (for the first time ever) is to replace the Renaissance for her refit.
The Queen of New West is currently replacing Queen of Alberni.

Thanks. This is what is confusing me. www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=2663There's no similar notice for the CR. I'm a new ferry watcher so I'm still getting used to the various sources of info. :-) So will the Renaissance be at Departure Bay for a while then? I have an excellent view of her from my house.

While the service notice is incorrect, it's less confusing to read from a public standpoint. That said, we'd have seen a more accurate service notice if the Inspiration and Renaissance had differing amenities.

Another note of interest, although The Renaissance has replaced Inspiration many times out of Duke Point, this is the first time ever The Inspiration replaced the Renaissance.
And may not be the last...
Spirit of VI needs refit Coastal Celebration needs refit Coastal Inspiration needs refit all before summer.
Keep in mind if Coastal Inspiration is not on her usual run The Queen of COQUITLAM will be needed on the Mid Island Express.
As a result both the DB to HB and the Langdale runs are effected when the COQUITLAM is needed to fill in.
I understand Queen of Cowichan will be replaced by the Coquitlam when the Alberni returns December 2. Queen of COQUITLAM will be required and stay over the Xmas Holidays for extra sailings.
In the new year Both Queen of Oak Bay and Surrey needs time off.
When juggling ships around attention is needed to make sure Queen of COQUITLAM is available during holidays for use on rt 2.
So timing is everything! Not to mention any potential break downs.

Coastal Renaissance has been tied up at berth 1 at Departure Bay since October 29 and from the schedule it looks like she'll be here two weeks more. There's a crew on board daily with lots of loud work being done.

Coastal Renaissance pulled out of berth 1, spun 270 degrees, and is heading out of Departure Bay now. Pretty gorgeous in the fog. She's not on the schedule today or tomorrow, so I assume she's coming back.
It's pretty darned noisy in Nanaimo with all the foghorns and ship's whistles today.

And she's back at Departure Bay. Or at least, I think she is. I heard her horn as she came in, in and I can hear her engine, but can't see a thing in the bay.

The Coastal Renaissance is out toodling around in the Strait again today. Guess we only have her here at Departure Bay for a couple more days - she's showing on the schedule for Thursday evening on the Swartz Bay run.

The Coastal Renaissance is working the Departure Bay - Horseshoe Bay run this weekend (now that the Spirit of Vancouver Island is back in service). I wasn't expecting it and wondered why the Queen of Cowichan was making such a deep rumble before the first sailing of the day.

What will the Coastal Renaissance be used for in low season? Will BC Ferries return Coastal Renaissance to year round service on route two? I am wondering since both Spirits will be used all year on route one. If was up to me I would put Coastal Renaissance on year round service on route two and Coastal Celebration would be in charge of refit replacements for both Spirit vessels and her sister because two Coastal don’t need to sit round in low season just Coastal Celebration should sit Monday to Thursday in low season.
