I have to praise crew aboard the Spirit of British Columbia about being very proactive about car alarms compared to the other crews who are reactive to car alarms. I personally think all crews on all vessels should proactive approach to car alarms. Umm... the only way they could be proactive about car alarms would be to anticipate them going off, and contacting owners in advance. Which is kind of hard. So I think all anyone can ever do is be reactive. I think all ferry crews tell people to turn off their alarm as soon as they're aware of the issue. The crew do have announcement saying turn off your alarm before she leaves, I haven’t heard on any other vessel except for her.

But people have left their cars by the time they're going to hear an announcement, and I'm not sure anyone is going to be conscientious enough to go back down to the upper car deck to make sure their alarms are off.

www.instagram.com/reel/Clr5BqCpbOs/?igshid=YzdkMWQ2MWU=Interesting I was on the 11am sailing (the one before this) and that little arm that goes over the anchor line kept going up and down in Swartz Bay. There was a ton of trainees on the ship, I had just passively assumed it had something to do with that, and maybe it did and my observation is just unrelated happenstance. In any event glad there's no injuries!

Anchor away! Has this happened before? And luckily it occurred outside of Active Pass!
To my knowledge an inadvertently dropped anchor has not happened before.
But, it has been procedure for decades to prepare the anchors for release when transiting through Active Pass. On the older V-class ferries a crew member was always there to do this manually before the vessel entered Active Pass, and to re-secure the anchor chain once they are out of Active Pass. (Perhaps it still works this way with the Queen of New Westminster.) The newer ships (Spirits & Coastals) still have this done but its automatic. I gather its done just by a button being pressed on the bridge ... Perhaps Chris or someone can tell us what really happens.
I assume that releasing the anchor requires a press of a different button and that anchor will not go if the anchor chain is secured as is normally the case.

Where is the Spirit of British Columbia going? Vancouver Drydock for refit

Where is the Spirit of British Columbia going? Every year in the period between New Year's & mid March the Spirits get their annual refits, first the SoBC and then the SoVI. They typically last about 4-5 weeks for each ship. The work is done at their home terminals, or at Deas, and occasionally (once every 5 years?) at one of the large dry docks. Marine Traffic tells me that SoBC is about to go under the Lions Gate Bridge.

Celebration will run on Route 30 Yikes, that is a significant reduction in capacity for Rt 1. It's bad enough when one Spirit is out. Noted for my next trip down...
Also, just to add to WC's comment... drydocking is typically done twice in 5 years, or every 2 years once the ship hits a certain age (can't remember off the top of my head, might be 30?).

Why both at the same time, and will there be any extra even hour sailings? Apparently there were no extra sailings yesterday, something which is normal on Fridays & Sundays at this time of year.

Yes, a bit of a blow for capacity. Hard to believe it's been 4 years (pre Spirit MLU) since the last time the Coastals were deployed as number one ships for the winter season while ridership was low. Also, if I'm not mistaken, neither Spirit has been drydocked since the MLU in Poland, until today.

Queen of New Westminster will be preferring secondary sailing when both Coastal are on route. Maybe it’s the only time they could get dry dock space.
