These the same non-believers who ferociously denied that it was actually the Queen of Victoria scrapped at Alang about a decade ago?

The QUEEN OF PRINCE RUPERT's former and soon to rejoin fleet mate QUEEN OF CHILLIWACK's pages on this forum will see some busy action now. I guess a new thread on FIJI FERRIES is in order for our moderators! Similar to what we did for the Queen of Prince Rupert and for the Albert J. Savoie, we'll move 'Chilliwack into the retired BC ferries section of the forum (I am doing that now), and the sunset period of encore work can be captured in that retired ship thread.

Fiji Sun online reports the ex Queen of Prince Rupert (Lomavitti Princess) will soon have a familiar running mate as they report Goundar Shipping has purchased the Queen od Chilliwack. it is expected to sail for Fiji within the month the Fiji Sun reports CONFIRMED! Upon hearing the news that another former 'Queen' would be joining the Goundar shipping family, the 'Lomaiviti Princess', rolling her eyes, sarcastically offered up a perfect royal disapproval: " oh good grief,... not Her!

We can only congratulate the Fijians with her third country of operation! Not bad for an old lady with a number of facelifts during her lifetime...

The words coming out of Deas today that George has purchase two vessels and Chilli is to depart Deas mid October. Deas is loading up with all or her old spare parts. It is said George is eyeing two more ferries from BC Ferries. So he will have whole fleet ex-BC Ferries.

My father-in-law was talking to someone on the Queen of Nanaimo a couple weeks ago who made it sound like there was a standing offer for the Nanny once she's retired from the same company. - John H

Are there any lakes in Fiji that require cable ferry service? If the BURNABY and/or NANAIMO go to Fiji, I guess bow and stern modifications would be in order for their main deck superstructures. As his ferries use on board loading ramps, these may be seen on these two 426-footers as well. Gone would be the rounded doors forward and the Main Deck forward and aft deck ends would be modified to handle the ramps. The CHILLIWACK already has them, so she's good to go.

Would be OK fine with me to see them go to Fiji, rather than under tow to a scrap yard in Mexico...

Would be OK fine with me to see them go to Fiji, rather than under tow to a scrap yard in Mexico... ...from the standpoint of a ferry fan, or someone who would like to see shipping safety standards in developing countries that more closely approximated what we have here in Canada?
The intended route for the soon to be ex- Queen of Chilliwack is from Natovi, on Viti Levu, to Nabouwalu, on Vanua Levu, which appears to be a distance of about 75 kilometres across fairly open ocean. The 'Chilliwack did have some experience with open seas here on her route forty journey, north of Vancouver Island. The aged and well worn Queen of Prince Rupert has not yet met with misfortune in her new home, and one only hopes the 'Chilliwack plies her route with comparable safety. The following video clip shows a slight difference in standards from ferry operations in BC and Fiji.

I wonder when the Chilliwack will be departing Deas?? It would be nice if it was mid day as it would be neat to see her leave one last time. October is gonna be rough out there in open water. Hopefully she does not sink on the way over lol!

Hopefully she does not sink on the way over lol! Mr Goundar says to the Fiji Sun that: “I will take the lead next week and we expect to bring the vessel by October 14. It will take around 17 days to get to Fiji.”
We'll be looking at the Victoria Pilots slate on their site daily leading up to her estimated date of sailing. They won't leave with the ship until all are fully ready. Lots of checklists to do, as well, of all items that need to be aboard for the sailing, especially enough fresh food for the crew that will last the entire voyage. In other words, the QUEEN OF CHILLIWACK won't sail until all parties involved are ready.

Global BC reported on the sale of the Queen of Chilliwack this evening. It'll come as no surprise to most of us but it sounds like the Wack didn't sell for a very high price. I imagine not nearly enough to make up for the 15 million upgrade she got a few years back. BC Ferries meanwhile is keeping tight-lipped on the amount it sold for so it doesn't affect the bids they receive for the Queens of Burnaby and Nanaimo. Video: globalnews.ca/video/2220829/controversy-over-bc-ferries-saleI expect 'Dear BC Ferries' is going to have a field day with this news.

Video: globalnews.ca/video/2220829/controversy-over-bc-ferries-saleI expect 'Dear BC Ferries' is going to have a field day with this news. John Horgan is quite right in criticizing the government for axing route forty, particularly after BC Ferries had sunk so much money into refitting the 'Chilliwack, but criticism of BC Ferries for not publicizing the sale price is unwarranted. Doing so could indeed affect the price they get for the 'Nanaimo and 'Burnaby. Not to mention that anything above scrap value for a very odd, 36 year old vessel like the 'Chilliwack is probably a bonus, given today's market for old ferries.
Typically shallow reporting from Global, further reinforcing my tendency to avoid local TV newscasts.

I was originally going to post this with my sig banner in the Signature thread, but I thought it would be more appropriate to make this post here. While most of us are probably glad to see the Queen of Chilliwack sold. I have to admit I'm a little on the fence about it. Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad she's been sold too, I can't count how many times this vessel has been an inconvenience to travel for not just me, but thousands of Powell Riverites that had to put up with her the last 20+ years. Her boxy looking Scandinavian ferry design didn't help her any either. She was just never a good fit in BC from the beginning. At the same time though, she does hold some sentimental value to me. She was among the first BC Ferries I can remember riding on and she could very well be the first I ever rode on too. (Depends how much the Capilano was on Route 7 in the Summer of 92.) She was also the ship I had my first ever bridge and engine room visits on. I've had plenty of good memories aboard the Queen of Chilliwack, at the same time though the bad memories can outweigh the good. If I have one regret, it's that I never got to truly experience what she was like on Route 40. To end off, I'll leave you with the full size version of the picture that I chose as my signature for this month, which was taken prior to my last trip on the Queen of Chilliwack on April 17th, 2014. By this time I was fed up with the Wack having taken a number of trips on her in the prior months so I didn't take very many pictures that day. In hindsight I would have taken more had I known this was my last sailing, but up until she was put up for sale, I was sure we were gonna see one last hurrah for the Norwegian Wønderbøat. Guess it wasn't meant to be. Oh well, I raise a glass to the Queen of Chilliwack. (or should we start calling her Lomaiviti Princess III?) May the passengers of Goundar Shipping view her in the same way passengers of BC Ferries did. Cheers! Queen of Chilliwack Approaching Earls Cove. by Curtis Simonetta, on Flickr

So is there a definite date for her departure to Fiji? I'd love to get out to photograph a retired ferry for the first time. I'm going to miss the 'Wack. Going to miss the numerous mornings during the summer years ago hearing her horn go off as I watch her depart Bella Coola in the morning from my dad's packer in the docks.

Perhaps BC Ferries didn't want to do anything remotely public for the 'Wack' considering the roasting they got from the NDP over the money spent on upgrades prior to her being withdrawn from service and put up for sale. AND, at the moment I doubt that the 'Wack' is the least of their concerns as all and sundry are jockeying for seats in the BS Connector's life raft.

I wasn't sure if I was going to see the Queen of Chilliwack/Lomaiviti Princess III before she sailed for Fiji, but I managed to get one last look out at Deas a week ago on Monday. The shots aren't too special, but will be the end of my documentation of this vessel in BC. All Photos are © CS16 Photography and may only be used with Permission from the Owner.First a shot of the vessels at Deas. The Powell River Queen is hidden between the Chilliwack and the Coquitlam. Tenaka is also off to the side but not pictured here. As the old saying almost goes, "you can't see the 'Chilliwack for the trees", and I think that's a good thing.
