Can anyone shed any light on which engine wiped the beatings in the 90-91 season prior to the re=powering of her?

Can anyone shed any light on which engine wiped the beatings in the 90-91 season prior to the re=powering of her? Only if you shed light on what "Wiped the Beatings" means.

Mike, I know you've mellowed with age (and therapy), and that your moderating style is pretty loosey goosey these days... but I'm glad to see that there are still some transgressions that elicit at least a playful rebuke. Any chance we'll see a renewal of apostrophe awareness? Have to admit... I still carry a torch for that one.

Any chance we'll see a renewal of apostrophe awareness? Have to admit... I still carry a torch for that one. International Auditing Standards recently started referring to an "Auditors' Report" as an "Auditor's Report." Unfortunately, Canadian Auditing Standards ("CAS" for those of you following along) followed the international lead, and so now our teams, offices, firms, are considered a singular auditor in the report name. There aren't too many 1-person-audit shows around, so the apostrophe-migration is a bit too much for some of us old guys to accept.

Queen of New Westminster, seen off Point Roberts, WA, with the 4 PM sailing from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen, BC - 17 May 2019. This photo was taken on the eve of the Victoria Day long weekend. Four ships were in service on route 1, the QoNW being one of them. No doubt she was busy ...

The citizens of the 'Royal City' as well as all true lovers of the original 'Queens', must be very pleased to see the old girl's appearance as she emerges from Deas Marine! Goodness, we aging ferry fans should look so good after a make-over! Too bad we all don't have it within our budgets for great make-overs.

Another member reports tonight that the Queen of Alberni is back on route 30, displacing the Queen of New Westminster.
I enjoyed a ride on the 'New West a week ago, a midweek round trip. I was thinking while on board about comments from some forum members about how they try to avoid the old girl. Don't know why. I don't like the narrow car lanes, but at least they've re-painted the starboard upper deck to three lanes for today's bigger vehicles. As with the Spirits, I just really like travelling on a ferry that has a bow and stern... a feature we will be without once the Spirits are retired. Granted, the engine vibration ensures that your clam chowder is properly stirred on the 'New West. But the vessel has personality, and I'll miss her when she eventually goes, severing the last connection to the original major vessel design of BC Ferries.

Reason: Number of passengers Rte 1 VS 30. Just too crowded on Rte 1.

Not a big deal I’m just curious as to why the New West has been sitting in Berth 5 at Tsawwassen when she’s not being used?? Which just leaves Berth 3 available when the SOBC ties up for the afternoon in Berth 4. Maybe it’s because the Alberni is in Berth 2?

If I had to guess why the New West is in berth 5 instead of 4, it’s likely because they’ve closed off the berth 5 foot passenger lounge to limit the potential spread of COVID-19. With the biggest lounge at Tsawwassen closed off, this would make it much easier for terminal staff to spread out foot passengers in the hallways between berths 2 and 5 instead of having them all gathered in one lounge. That being said, I’m sure they don’t even need berth 5 right now due to both the pandemic and the lower amount of foot traffic caused by it.

All ferry fans such as myself,I have had a word with the project manager of the new Major vessel replacement, he has told me and I quote the Queen of New Westminister is going to be the kept a few years after the final major vessel replacement vessel is built for the reason that she is in excellent shape for a ship of her age, she has very reliable and relatively good engines with lower hours on them, she also during her huge MLU in 2007/2008 had her engines overhauled and had all asbestos lead paint and PCBs removed where as the Cowichan Coquitlam and Alberni still have some in certain areas, and aswell she can and will be a viable backup as the new major vessel replacements are being worn in and as crew members are slowly getting trained on the new ships, he also has said that if she is determined to be safe and well enough to work she may also be pushed to the Queen of Oak bays And Queen of surreys retirements. If you don't believe me once again my father is a engineer who I can and will trust over someone who does not have a 3rd engineering officers certification and someone who is in charge of the New major vessel replacement which includes the New Westminister. Cheers Jimmy.
