Was this ever done on any of the other BC ferries?

Was this ever done on any of the other BC ferries? No, I am fairly certain the the New West was unique in that respect.

I'm not sure exactly why the Dogwood and Spirit logo switched places right after her lifting. It clearly only lasted maybe a year or two though....most likely the next time she would have went in for refit. It was a shipyard error that BC Ferries did not want to pay to have corrected. From the minutes of a management meeting c. 1992.

That's a pretty big error, to be painted on the side of a ship for all to see. Frankly, I like having the dogwood down there. It looks nice. They should shrink down the slugs and put them there too, instead of pasted all over the side like they are now. ;D

Here's a postcard showing the BC Spirit flag on the funnel: Still looks better than mating slugs.

At Deas Dock on November 7th, 2010, I found two of the QoNW's old lifeboats:

A plain blue funnel would look better than the slugs... Wonder if the lifeboat is still usable. It looks like it's been there for quite a while.

I don't understand why it wouldn't be usable. It's just been sitting there for the past few years. They probably removed it at the time of her MLU, seeing that that's slug-blue on the lifeboats nameplate and number.
Just out of curiosity, how heavy would one of these lifeboats be?

On average of 2,000 to 4,000 lbs.

I would have to agree with deepsea as the one from the Maquinna I grew up sailing around in was no light wieght piece of equiptment.

Royal City Queen, seen as she departs Tsawwassen's berth-3 on her 10:15am trip to Duke Point. - I was on the outside deck of the Queen of Burnaby (berth 2) and Mr. DOT told me "that's a good shot there", and so I took out my camera and started shooting.

I've always wondered, why do the superstructures of all the B's get wider as they approach the bottom of the lower vehicle deck? Was this a modification to increase deckspace, or as-built? If the B's (not sure about the v's) have this, why weren't later ferries built with the same widening shape?

All of the 7 sisters, plus the Sidney and Tsawwassen had that taperd superstructure look as built. Why was it like that? Probably more of just an aesthetic thing to add more character to the look of the ship itself. Why don't they do it anymore? Because times have changed and ferries are no longer designed for looks, and are designed for functionality.
The horizontal weld lines from the lifting are really obvious in that photo though. Kind of detracts from the look of the ship itself. But I must admit, I still like the look of the lifted V/B class.

Hah! Nice job, Kam. I actually like the look of the ferry without the blue stripe. running end-to-end. It looks less busy, and in my opinion, even a little bit classier. When was this photo originally taken? April's flagship contest should be for photoshopped pictures of ferries.

We should start a thread for photoshopped pictuures, i know we have lots of them around!

A short little video of the Queen of New Westminster that I filmed in August of 2002 while she was on Route 30. Good to see the Dogwood flag flying on that flagstaff at the bow again!
PS: Also excuse the filming qualities... I was 14 at the time.
