Here's a set of 'Cowichan pictures taken at Gabriola Island on 12/31/2010: - most of these photos are posted because of the day's scenery (we've all seen this particular ferry many times before....) - I love that jagged-tooth mountain. - Peek-a-book with Snake Island. - the view from Malaspina Galleries park. - view from Orlebar Point.

Out of curiosity where is that first picture "jagged-tooth mountain" looking towards? And where is it taken from? I spun up Google Earth from a Gabriola Island point of view but that peak has eluded me.

My view was "to the right" of Snake Island (that's my reakoning, based on previous and subsequent pictures in my set). - I will look at Google Earth tonight, to see if I can give you a better indication of my point-of-view. I've seen that same mountain from a Route-30 ferry, as it makes the route's turn at Snake Island.

Is there no way that it could be Mt. Garibaldi? It has a similar spire appearance, at the top.

A sequence of shots of the Queen of Cowichan as she departs from that bay in Nanaimo. - photos taken today from the public-beach across the bay. ----------------------- - I like the angle of this. It appears that she's heading for a Newcastle beach. But it's just the angle of departure from the bay. - Heading out of the bay. - Passing Nares Point on Newcastle Island. - On her way to the mainland. With the tip of Stephenson Point on the left-side of the photo.

A sunny & windy Sunday at Nanaimo had me at Neck Point park. - here is the Queen of Cowichan on her 3:00pm sailing to HSB. - emerging from behind the point at Pipers Lagoon park - running the gauntlet between Snake Island and the 5-Fingers.

The Queen of Cowichan looks like she could use a fresh coat of paint.

Great picture! I love pictures where the sun's rays cut through the clouds like they do there. Fantastic lighting, and the contrast between the dark, somber clouds in the foreground and the brighter sunset in the background really ties it up. Good composition.
