Looks like it did not hit either berth 1 or berth 2, but rather the dock used by the water taxis going to/from nearby islands such as Keats.
The Cowichan will be brought in to make two round trips this evening using the single level berth and thereby greatly restricting auto capacity per sailing. Its about time that that berth was double decked.

Pardon me for asking a puzzling question here but if the other dock is unaffected, although only single-deck, why can't service provided by the 'Cowichan' or other vessel long before 'this evening'? I realize crews have to be assembled and transit to Langdale would be required but the time lapse seems a bit long?

The Coquitlam is replacing the Inspiration (which is in refit I assume). The New Westminster, however, appears to be available. Question: Are those internal ramps on the C class vessels still operational?

Re: ramps on the C is a good question, the last time there was a significant closure at Langdale they used the Island Sky and a C using one deck. More photos: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2563432827019322&id=109315035764459&sfnsn=moBetween these and the CBC story photos looks like some more than trivial damage. Hopefully everything is back to normal soon. Sounds like everyone is okay which is most important!

For the larger southern routes, it would be optimal of course to have a boat 'laying around' that could be utilized in situations like today's Langdale issue but sadly very unrealistic. Wonder if they could fire up the old 'Burnaby'? …..Just kidding.

Vessel availability is the only hindrance I can think of BC Ferries is already down two ships with the SOVI on her way back from Poland and the Coastal Celebration at Departure Bay for maintenance. They've juggled ships around to cover for the Celebration being out of service. The Coastal Inspiration was moved from Duke Point to Swartz Bay and the Queen of Coquitlam was moved from Departure Bay to Duke Point. Only the Queen of Oak Bay, Queen of Cowichan, and the Queen of Surrey are available to do the Horseshoe Bay - Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay - Langdale runs right now. Edit: the Cowichan's round trip between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale is on the regular schedule for today - the Surrey makes a round trip to Departure Bay in the evenings and the Cowichan goes to Langdale. I am sure we'll see this evening's Queen of Surrey run to Departure Bay cancelled with no replacement.

Looks like a tug (the Seaspan Kestrel) has arrived alongside the Queen of Surrey.

New West to Route 30 (to replace the Coquitlam which is replacing the Inspiration) would strike me as the only way to get a C class available right now with only a minimal disruption to service. Would lose some Route 1 hourly service and route 30 supplements.
Always interested to see what happens in these unique situations.

Question: Are those internal ramps on the C class vessels still operational? The last time I saw the internal ramps in use on Route 3 was in May 2013.

Looking at MarineTraffic, there now is a Coast Guard hovercraft, the Moytel and a spill response vessel, the Harbour Sentinel, standing by near the Queen of Surrey.

Seaspan Raven is now in the area to assist the Seaspan Kestrel.
[ship shuffle speculation] ... As the Celebration just arrived at Departure Bay last night, Celebration to route 30 (freeing the Coquitlam) or 2 (freeing the Cowichan) allowing one of those C's to relieve on route 3. ... [/ship shuffle speculation]

Wow that's as great a response as possible. Only other abatement I could see is sending whichever Salish just finished refit to provide for hourly Service making up for having only 65% capacity available.

The Surrey was pulled free just before 1730. She's currently being guided into Berth 1 for off-loading.

They've got a crane barge here and everything but I guess they haven't gotten too deep into the refit. The Coastal Celebration is still here at Departure Bay so I guess we can expect to hear her go out overnight.
