I was free this afternoon, so I hopped on one of the free water taxis over to Hopkins Landing, where BC Transit was running a shuttlebus over to Langdale and Lower Gibsons. Here are a couple photos taken from the beach. The tugboats were standing by as divers inspected the Queen of Surrey's propeller and rudder for damage. Close-up of the damage: Close up of damage caused by the collision with the floating dock by Michael, on Flickr Just a scratch. It will buff right out.

Pardon me for asking a puzzling question here but if the other dock is unaffected, although only single-deck, why can't service provided by the 'Cowichan' or other vessel long before 'this evening'? I realize crews have to be assembled and transit to Langdale would be required but the time lapse seems a bit long? Vessel availability is the only hindrance I can think of And, most likely, a blip of interest is off the southern Mexican area of Oaxaca this overnight hour of this posting. Still many days until the SPIRIT OF VANCOUVER ISLAND can restore order to vessel availability.

Has there been any news on repairs to the Queen of Surrey? It's good that BC Ferries did send the Coastal Celebration back into service with this long out-of-service period for the Surrey.

She's very slowly found her way to Seaspan's yard by Lonsdale.

She's very slowly found her way to Seaspan's yard by Lonsdale. Yeah, saw her in the drydock at the Seaspan yard in North Van, with a cargo ship in the next berth over. Can't tell which end was the one that got banged up when I drove by earlier today, but I really didn't have time to look.

I think BC Ferries will be trying to get her back into service quite fast because reservation page shows her returning on April 18.

I can confirm I saw work happening on the Queen of Surrey yesterday; I definitely saw some metal work happening with sparks flying, and they've setup a tent structure on the bow end as well. I also saw exhaust fumes coming out of the stack on top of that.

Looks like Q of Surrey is back in the water and doing sea trials.
She's currently back in Horseshoe Bay.

As of 2:30pm, she's now docked in berth 2 at Langdale. BC Ferries Reservations page shows her back in service tomorrow.

Looks like they're still determining cause and she'll be back in service Friday. BC Ferries Reservations is now showing her back on Friday starting with the 3:15pm sailing from Langdale. I have notice that Queen of Surrey has different outside tables and more plug in for people. Why does Queen of Surrey have somewhat different passenger space features compared to Queen of Oak Bay?

True for plug in but now days majority of people have cell phones or Tablets which need to be charged so I sure BC Ferries considers adding plug ins or charging stations to ever vessel because mobile devices need to be charged. I truly didn’t notice more tables on her. But why are they different and look more modern?

I literally cannot believe this guy made this statement: "The reason why they didn't use the checklist is simply because they were under various pressures at the time due to the fact that it's a large ship arriving in a dock on a timeline and somebody made a mistake," said Darren Johnston, executive director of fleet operations for BC Ferries. ***** The use of checklists in situations such as these is a way to stay organized "under various pressures" ... that's why, no matter what is going on, you run the checklist to make sure you've got everything under control.

One thing that I noticed that hasn't really been mentioned is that the Queen of Surrey got its 3/4 Life upgrade when it was out of service in February and March and some things I noticed when I was on her that wasn't on the Queen of Oak Bay was:
New Tables and Chairs on Deck 6 New Flooring in the Coast Cafe Express New Lights in her interior The rebranding of the Passages Gift Shop to Passages Retail Store Better TV's New Toy thing in the Kids Zone that replaced the slide New Artwork on the Kids Zone Wall The New Lady doing the Pre Recorded announcement for the Safety Announcement, What is onboard and when to go back to your vehicles.
