The Chilliwack is just as bad because shes seriously handicapped of carrying overheights. The other thing is that they couldnt find enough qualified crew. Hey, stop providing Karl with sensible details that get in the way of an unproductive rant. ...meant in good fun banter. Well, I guess he is right about the schedule and that the Wack has catering facilities.

Here is another ship worthy of gold funnel stripes. Even though she started her career elsewhere on the coast, she's still going strong!

A little blurb from a PR Peak article this week regarding the replacement vessel for the North Island Princess. The article is mainly about the most recent Northern Sunshine Coast FAC Meeting and implementing a program on Route 17 that reduces fares for kids travelling with school groups or sports teams. (Similar to the program currently offered on Route 3) Full Article Here: www.prpeak.com/articles/2015/05/21/news/doc555bd50f1f841719258232.txtSimply put, just more talk. While it's nice to hear that the NIP will be around to see her 60th, I do hope that her replacement doesn't get put off much longer. While it's good to see the replacements for the Nanaimo and Burnaby coming along, BC Ferries should be taking a serious look at the vessels near the same age or older than the 'B' Class duo. Of course we've seen BC Ferries perform life extensions on a number of 30+ year old minor vessels the last few years, (e.g Tachek, QQII, 'K'/'Q' Barges) but we haven't seen much of anything past routine maintenance for the NIP or the Tenaka since they will be retired in the next few years. So where are their replacements? Do they think that the Quinitsa being freed up once the BS Connector enters service is a valid enough reason for retiring the only spare raised-hull vessel they have? I sure do hope not. If it was up to me, I'd be calling for two new minor vessels to replace both the NIP and Tenaka. To end off this rant, I personally hope BC Ferries takes a serious look at minor vessel replacement once the ICF Project is finished. Cause if they don't, they'll be onto replacing the New West and the 'C' Class before considering the NIP.

remember the days when our new QPR would dock along side the unmodified Island Princess when we docked at our Kelsey Bay berth! mr.dot.

remember the days when our new QPR would dock along side the unmodified Island Princess when we docked at our Kelsey Bay berth! mr.dot. ...And I would walk over to the General Store, looking back across the wee harbour at what I used to think was the biggest, gleaming, ferry liner ever built. Little did I realize the 'Island Princess and the 'QPR' would carve out 50 plus years of reliable service, the current state of the 'NIP' not withstanding.
