QQII departing Sointula at 7:55am on Monday January 5, 2015. - seen from my hotel room. -------------------------------- This is a high-school sailing, and is normally a busy vehicle & passenger traffic sailing. Nice lighting for her prop-wash Heading for Port McNeill, in the regular roundabout route that avoids Haddington Reef.

My final set of QQII photos, from my January 2015 trip to Sointula. - as Mr. Cassidy would say, "She is 'Quinsam North'." January 3rd - at 7:00pm January 4th - 7:07am January 4th - 7:12pm January 4th - 7:23pm

Here are a couple videos of the mighty Quadra Queen II.
Firstly, a video of her approach and landing at Port McNeill. It starts with her coming over from Alert Bay. This shows the Port McNeill power-slide
-----------------------
Secondly, here is a complete trip view video, seen from Sointula. You can see the ship leaving Port McNeill, dodging Haddington Reef, and arriving at Sointula. After she leaves Sointula, the video follows her back to Port McNeill, and then shows the start of her next trip to Alert Bay. A busy ship.

QQ2 in the dark.
Here's a video of 2 different night-time views of QQII at Sointula.
The 7:00pm view is different, because I shot it using TV-mode, ie. shutter speed priority. It lets in more light, but looks a bit jerky. - the beginning of this clip shows a tug towing a very large barge southward. I wonder if this is an "Alaska barge" headed for Seattle, using Broughton Strait for a more sheltered route.
The 9:00pm view is different, just because the ferry is coming from Alert Bay DIRECT to Sointula, on that end-of-day last-call.
Both show the lovely effect of the ship in the darkness.

My final video of this year's visit to Sointula:
This one is the QQII sailing in heavy weather. You've seen a few stills from that sailing already, now here is the moving picture.
For those who rarely get to see this ship in action, if at all, I hope that these videos gave you some enjoyment and even some education in how this north island route operates. Although the ship appears to be on a triangle route, it's not a pure triangle. Apart from the last round-trip each night, and the 1st sailing on Sunday only, she operates as a "Rotating single-destination ship." - more of a "V" than a triangle, with the bottom of the "V" being Port McNeill.
Cheers !
ps: at the end of the video, I show a short clip of QQII seemingly drag-racing from Port McNeill to Alert Bay. To anyone watching this on a phone/tablet, she's just a tiny white dot, moving quickly.

A view of Quadra Queen II arriving at Port McNeill, from Alert Bay. - this is a bright sunny & windy afternoon on January 2, 2016
My vantage point is the car line-up in the Port McNeill terminal. - later on, I will post a simliar video shot from the street, that shows a clearer view of the arrival spin.

...and here's the street view of the QQII, at Port McNeill.
- this video shows the shore view of the 2nd half of her trip from Alert Bay to Port McNeill, the unloading/loading at Port McNeill, and then the entire trip to Sointula.
I had great weather for filming this one:

When was the last time the QQII operated somewhere other than Port McNeill? Probably quite a while. She hasn't been around as much as her sister. Tachek has done Alert Bay & Sointula, Hornby, Texada, southern Gulf Islands out of Swartz Bay, and even did a brief stint on route nine out of Tsawwassen when the 'Nanaimo was out of commission. I think there was also an evening at Bowen. Can't recall the QQII being anywhere but Quadra or her current route.
Anyone else?

She operated alongside the Tachek on QCove-CRiver in the 80s...

Sointula street views of the departing Quadra Queen II, on her 4:35pm sailing to Port McNeill. - vehicles ready to disembark from the previous sailing, but then there will be no vehicles on the next sailing on this New Year's Day 2017 sailing. The old "Boat Day" of yester-year has been mostly replaced by "Ferry Time" in isolated places. A brief flurry of activity waiting, arrivals, departure, then return to an empty street.
Here's my 17th Avenue view of Sointula's ferry-time around 4:30pm on New Year's Day 2017. Quieter than usual, and no vehicles loading for the return sailing.

I am at Sointula for the next few days.
Today's sailing on the Quadra Queen II was on rough waters, but nothing that the raised-bow workhorse couldn't handle.
She has a lot of visible exterior rust. I wonder when her next refit is?
Photos to come in early January.
