Tenaka seen by me in July 2013: Arriving at Whaletown terminal on Cortes Island. - afternoon of July 24, 2013 This is the view that most people get from the traffic lineup on the hill at Whaletown. Whaletown's wharf (where I've taken other photos) is off across the cove, to the left of that orange wind-sock. Marina Island is in the far background. On board for a westbound trip. - the tightly packed vehicle deck The port-side tunnel lane The Sean photo, without the Sean

July 25, 2013 views of Tenaka, seen from the tip of Rebecca Spit Provincial Park Eastbound, at 11:20am Westbound, at 12:40pm - the pre-planned artsy shot -------------- These might be the last ever photos that I post of Tenaka on the Cortes Island route.

Just copying this old post from a refit thread to the Tenaka main thread. The Tenaka is currently in dry dock in New West in Queensborough, as seen from the Q-Borough Bridge to the east. Thanks for that tip, New Flyer. One of my favorite ferries, at Fraser Shipyard. A worker told me that her hull was in good shape, and that she was going to look "pretty terrific" when finished.

Does anyone know when in 2014 the Tenaka will be retired? How much more time will I have to get a ride on the nicest-looking minor BCF is retired?

She may be around a couple more years yet, but this will probably be the last time she will be on her long time regular route.

Are these seats more or less comfortable than the cheese graters?

Are these seats more or less comfortable than the cheese graters? Definitely more comfortable. These seats were on the Capilano and Cumberland pre-MLU, and I felt were a good fit (though the new ones are better). They're also a good fit for the Tenaka (though I can't speak for someone who has sat on them for the entire 45 minute duration). If the Tachek returns to the Cortes run with the cheese-graters, that would definitely be a downgrade in passenger comfort.

It was an interior upgrade at some point in the last two-three years. You're right, not a mid-life overhaul. I offer a thousand pardons to my offended peers. If the Tachek returns to the Cortes run with the cheese-graters, that would definitely be a downgrade in passenger comfort. Well... there's a set of cheese-graters kicking around they recently pulled from the Mayne Queen, right? Yes, and I hope they have since been converted to real cheese graters so they can serve a greater purpose in society, rather than just keeping chiropractors in business.

Some of us don't get pop-culture references... What were the cheese graters?

Some of us don't get pop-culture references... What were the cheese graters? It's not a pop-culture reference. The "cheese graters" are a kind of seat found on many of the minor vessels that is metal and has lots of little holes in it that make it look like a cheese grater. It's also pretty uncomfortable. It would seem to be more uncomfortable than the Eames chairs on the Hyak and Elwha. At least those have some cushion, but they still make your back hurt.

Maybe not a television one, but the very fact someone had to make up a cultural reference to the seating on board a minor vessel means it is still a minor pop culture reference. Even so, I still don't remember things like that from the Tachek. Maybe we need photo evidence.

Tenaka at dusk, October 13, 2013 at Heriot Bay, BC. - I'm on the harbour authority float, accessed from Antler Rd. in Heriot Bay. Arrival, with a nice reflection in the water Departure, showing us her lights (I believe this is the first dusk/night shot of Tenaka ever posted on this forum, or the 2nd or 3rd - we don't have many, and time is running out - and this was the motivation for my trip today)

Tenaka seen by me from Rebecca Spit park. - she is on her way to Heriot Bay, on her 3:50pm sailing. Oct.13, 2013 A lovely ship on a lovely route Tenaka with Mt. Doogie Dowler, a favourite combination of mine Almost at Heriot Bay, with the cliffs of Heriot Island. --------------------- Why the overload of Tenaka photos? She's likely going to be retired in late 2014 or 2015. But her time on the Cortes route is even shorter, likely only 2 more months (it depends on when Tachek's rebuild final get completed - the BCFS service notice still says that Tachek returns in September 2013 - a whole new level of time-travel service).
