On a recent trip up to Ucluelet, I spotted a boat that I thought was the North Island Princess at first glance. However, I'm fairly certain is was not. Did the original Island Princess have a sister ship in BC? Does any know if this boat was an ex-BC Ferry? Thanks View AttachmentThat looks like the Tenaka

That matches. Thanks very much. Using the name you provided, I was able to find this news story that confirms it and gives some background. News Story

Post to acknowledge I moved 3 posts from the North Island Princess thread to here as they had nothing to do with the NIP.
Also, I've renamed this thread back to 'Tenaka' as she is no longer owned by Lady Rose Marine. I've retained 'Alberni Legacy' in the thread title as that was her last registered name, but the majority of us still refer to her as 'Tenaka.' (Except maybe those old enough to remember her as 'Comox Queen')

As the Alberni Legacy she sat in Alberni Harbour for pretty much the whole time.

I've reverted it to 'Tenaka' Since none of the other ex-BC Ferry thread titles reference their post-BCF names. (Just think if we did though: We'd have Alberni Legacy, Inlet Explorer, Buttle Shuttle, R.J. Breadner, Princess Jacqueline, Ocoa, Muskegon Clipper, and Lomaiviti Princess I, III, and V)

It was reported on the BC Coastal Mariners facebook page, that the Tenaka was towed out of Ucluelet yesterday. She's presently under tow by the "Westco Promoter", and is approaching East Point in Boundary Pass. Will be interesting to see where she ends up. My guess is Port Melon, but we will see.

Good thing I didn't bet any money on that prediction. She is now headed up the Fraser River, bound for "Maple Ridge".

I hope she's not actually bound for the same graveyard the ' Sidney occupies...

The Westco Promoter and Tenaka seems to have stopped at the old Albion ferry terminal?

The Westco Promoter and Tenaka seems to have stopped at the old Albion ferry terminal? Nobody likes the big, boring Golden Ears bridge. By popular request, the province is re-instating the ferry crossing. Tenaka to the rescue.

Wow... red funnels, zero apparent rust, pristine car deck... is this what she's actually had done to her, or is this just some photoshop magic? I really doubt any owner would invest so much work and paint to sell a vessel like the Tenaka, at this price...

Tenaka, c1986 - location & photographer unknown (Capt Bob Gentles collection)
Originally, the Comox Queen; my guess on location Heriot Bay, Quadra Island

I think this is more likely to be Whaletown, just after her departure turnaround. Traffic is loaded after a bow-in berth. Yes, she could be approaching Heriot Bay, but her direction is wrong, based on the jetty railing in the foreground. If this were Heriot Bay, she'd be coming in from right to left in the photo. This stuff is fun to ponder. Thanks for these posts.

So... the M.O.H. fleet was absorbed into BC Ferries in 1985, right? Seems pretty quick to get these all repainted into the BCF livery.

Very good point, and 1985 was that year that the transition occurred. The Expo 86 logo was only on BCF vessel funnels from 1985 until 1987, I think. So in all likelihood this photo would date from 1986, or early 87. Now I just need definitive info on the location & maybe the name of the photographer.

Now, if someone has info on which route Tenaka was doing in 1986 that would be good. We really need a data base covering the period 1960 to the present showing which vessels were on which route. That would be a project ...
