Funny you mentioned it..... I recieved a text message from NewFlyer this afternoon, who was on scene at Fraser Shipyards, seeing the Nimpkish down there. Siitech shows the Tenaka still at Fraser Shipyard, but no sight of Nimpkish. Maybe it's hiding in their shed. I sent an email to BC Ferries asking about the "charter vessel", and they replied promptly: " The MV Nimpkish is currently in refit until March 14th, 2010. As a result there is barge and water taxi service being provided by Shearwater Marine." What I don't understand is that the schedule shows the same transit time between Shearwater and Ocean Falls as when the Nimpkish is operating. Surely a tug and barge would be slower.

Yesterday she was in the drydock at Fraser Shipyards, with the Tenaka sidelined onshore. I'll do another check tomorrow and report back.

Thanks for all your responses. The Nimpkish is currently showing up at Fraser Shipyards. . . The Tenaka is back in the water and should be leaving for Whaletown either today or tomorrow in order to recommence service on Thursday. In fact, BCFS has now posted a SERVICE NOTICE about the Nimpkish refit, probably thanks to Neil's email inquiry. . . [/size] What I don't understand is that the schedule shows the same transit time between Shearwater and Ocean Falls as when the Nimpkish is operating. Surely a tug and barge would be slower. I'm guessing the schedule is for the water taxi service, and the barge service will leave Ocean Falls at the same time but fall behind schedule somewhat. However, will it be the same tug and barge that replaced the Kwuna? If so, I don't think it runs much slower than 10 knots, which is Nimpkish service speed, so it might be able to keep close to the schedule. I now understand why it won't run all the way to Bella Coola, which is a considerable distance from Ocean Falls for a barge srevice to run to and it's not absolutely necessary to service.

Question: I was just looking at the Nimpkish on SiiTech's AIS tracker at Fraser Shipyards, and suddenly she went off the radar. Now only the Tenaka's showing...
edit: oh, and now the Nimpy's back on... why did that just happen?

This most definitely confirms that Bella Coola is home port for the Nimpkish!

Nimpkish is back in-service. She's currently sailing up Burke Channel, towards Bella Coola.
- she's shown on the vessel-tracking page of the BCFS website.

I may have already asked this, but what route does Nimpy serve in the summer, and what route in the winter? All I know is that it's something up north. She keeps such a low profile, it's hard to know where she is and when

Nimpkish is idle during the summer. During the winter she provides connecting service between the route 40 ports (Bella Bella, Shearwater, Klemtu, Ocean Falls and Bella Coola) and route 10.

Or did you just cut right to your question. - If you just cut to the question, then I'd ask you to please try and do some more research before you ask the question. Quite often, you'd be able to find most of the answer in the few pages before, and sometimes posted in the past 2 months or so. You're a regular forum-poster, and so I'm assuming that you're a regular forum-reader too? .......I'm just doing some personality-profiling, and I'm curious. ;D

Some time back, Donella started a 'lolferries' thread... the photo above of Nimpkish and Mill Bay made me think of that. Something along the lines of Nimpkish finally finding someone she's bigger than.

A clipping from the Dolphin, of the Nimpkish biting into quite a wave.

Now there's a great find. She could be mistaken for one of those passenger catamarans from this angle.

I have a question about the Nimpkish's operations...
Two watches (6 crews for one watch) are brought aboard for one roundtrip, right? I know the ship is based out of Bella Coola, and that it takes around 24 hours to do a round trip stopping at every port. Or do they operate the ship with 3 crews on, 3 off?
