Haida Gwaii inter-island ferry Kwuna, seen here on its way from Skidegate Landing (Graham Is) to Alliford Bay (Moresby Is).
I understand that its four year refit is due, but BCFS has pushed it back by one year. There is discussion about being able to sub another ferry onto this route, possibly an Island class (with twice as much capacity). That would mean installation of more conventional berthing facilities. We shall see ...

Kwuna has arrived at Point Hope Shipyard in Victoria. Does anyone know how the vessel made the journey south to Victoria; towed or under her own power? It is a long voyage, including open waters. No sleeping quarters, nor a galley. A mystery to me!

No sleeping quarters, nor a galley. A mystery to me! I'm open to being corrected, but I seem to recall shots of her transiting under her own power. Not hard to put a trailer on board for accommodation if need be, but the 'k' class does have rudimentary crew kitchen facilities, and it wouldn't be problematic to install some cots in the lounge.

For Kwuna's 2013 refit down-south, she was towed from Haida Gwaii by a tug boat. I did a photo essay of ferry & tug as they went through Seymour Narrows and past Campbell River. Fun times chasing, back in the day.

Thank you Neil. That makes sense. It would have been a long slow voyage.
Not as long as someone with a sense if humour had while on the bridge. Now that she is “moored”, not sailing, a smart ass entered into the AIS transponder that the voyage was “Victoria to Istanbul!” This still shows on her last reported AIS position; perhaps it just felt that lengthy!!

The refit is almost complete. The shrink wrap has been removed and propellers reinstalled. On November 10 the large ramps were being lifted back into place. She does not look almost 50 years old!

BCF tweeted Kwuna's return to service (with the somewhat confusing "5 year refit" phrase making it seem like it took 5 years!):
