A comparison of different ships, from the same spot: A telescopic view of the Klitsa at Brentwood Bay, taken from the Malahat lookout on Friday. It's not the clearest, but I'm just surprised that the camera stays in focus on subjects this far away! On Nov.18, 2010, I stopped at the Malahat lookout (Hwy 1) and enjoyed watching the MV Mill Bay for parts of 2 runs. I wanted to experience that high-up vantage point for this soon-to-be-retired ship. - MV Mill Bay at/near the Brentwood Bay terminal, loading for her next trip.

She doesn`t blend into the scenery as well as the Mill Bay did.

So we decided to end our vacation road-trip with a Saanich-Inlet ferry sailing today.
We arrived at Brentwood Bay just after the crew's lunch break, and we were the 3rd or 4th vehicle lined-up on the street; the 2 jetty lanes were already full. So we weren't sure if we were going to make that sailing or not, but a 1-hour wait until the next sailing would have been fine with us.
So the traffic starts loading and we finally move onto the jetty and the ferry looks full. An RV is on the loading ramp ready to take the final spot on the Klitsa, and we're still 3rd in line on the jetty. So it looks like we're waiting.
While the crew is busy trying to slowing load/squeeze the RV into the final space on the Klitsa, the 2 vehicles in front of me on the jetty decide to give up and drive-around the Malahat instead, so they both do 3-point-turns on the jetty and leave. I'm now #1 on the jetty, ready to wait an hour and be first-on for the next sailing.
....then: The RV starts to back-up up the ramp. It couldn't fit, so they are backing it up, to place it in lane-2 on the jetty, with a promise of being first-on for the next sailing.
....Which means that they suddenly have space for 1 more car, and guess who is in spot #1 on the jetty? I am, because 2 people gave-up too early and left.
So we made that sailing on the Klitsa.

Is the Klitsa your fav boat now? Ha! Not quite, Karl... I have been rather ferry trip deprived over the last few months. Due to our frequent trips to Victoria over the last few weeks, a trip on Route 12 aboard the Klitsa helps the ferry trip craving, but only slightly. I'll be planning another "Northern Extravaganza" trip on Routes 10, 11 and 26 in the coming months. Four days of ferry travel should satisfy my craving! ;D

On board views of Klitsa, from July 20, 2012. The evacuation slide area is now fenced off, with yellow tape A full sailing means that it's tough for me to get my signature-shot. It's interesting to note that almost all the possible photo angles of Klitsa have now been covered, a few times, by photos in this here thread. There's not much left in unexplored territory other than crew areas. Everyone now has their own photo taken from the sun deck, showing the "down the deck look" with the bridge on the side. I think we should use that photo as an admission-criteria for joining this forum (you can't join until you get that shot, haha). And for on-shore points of view, there are not very many new views still to be had.

Klitsa (and Kahloke and Kwuna, too) have a unique differing look when seen from either end, because of the side-placement of the bridge. Here is how Klitsa looked on October 25, 2012, from both ends. I like asymmetry in ships, just as I also like it in stadium architecture especially baseball parks. Cookie-cutter symmetry might be clean, but I like quirks too.

I can still remember taking Klitsa between Nanaimo and Gabriola, until Quinitsa was purpose built for the route, and started service in 1977.

If you stop at the Malahat highway viewpoint and look to the Saanich Inlet below, this is part of what you will see. - Klitsa, heading from Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay, on the hot afternoon of August 5, 2013. Leaving Brentwood Bay: Passing Senanus Island: Approaching the Mill Bay berth. When she is docked, you can see a partial view of the ship from this viewpoint.
