Bumping up what seems to be a less than loved ship in the off-season, the mighty Klitsa still steams back and forth across the Saanich Inlet. An interesting analysis from a crew member, who said that this route is an exception to the unwritten rule "a ferry should never compete with a road" - odd, given that ferries have been offering marine shortcuts for centuries (probably more applicable in Washington than BC). Anyways, here are some photos from on board the Klitsa. Vehicle Deck (2) - MV Klitsa by MileagePhoto, on Flickr Sun Deck (3) - MV Klitsa by MileagePhoto, on Flickr

The mighty Klitsa @ Deas Pacific Marine, Richmond - 7 May 2010. This was not long before she was re-assigned to the Saanich Inlet crossing, thus replacing the even less mighty Mill Bay. photo © WCK-JST by Wett Coast, on Flickr

Let's hope the Malahat doesn't end up being closed for some reason during that time! Do not they have another boat that can fill in??

It was a crew shortage. Per Times Colonist news story, one crew member had an illness, and they couldn't find a replacement.

A very busy & fifteen minutes late Klitsa, in a very smokey Saanich Inlet, not far from its berth @ Mill Bay, Vancouver Island - 4 August 2017. The smoke is currently wide spread over much of BC & beyond, originating from numerous forest fires in the BC interior. Finding good breathable air is becoming a challenge ... © WCK-JST by Jim Thorne, on Flickr

I thought I would share this sign I found on the Klitsa earlier today. I thought it was rather funny.

I thought I would share this sign I found on the Klitsa earlier today. I thought it was rather funny. Part of the obsessive safety culture that BC Ferries is a part of. Before long, I'm sure we'll see a warning in the bathroom stalls which shows a figure of someone drinking from a toilet with a red line drawn through it.

I thought I would share this sign I found on the Klitsa earlier today. I thought it was rather funny. These signs, I believe, are placed in steeply inclined crew-only stairwells; stairs that are 'half ladder'. So I have to disagree with Neil this time. These signs are not part of an over-obsessed safety culture. Going down such steps while facing forward is a bad idea. If you saw this sign in a passenger accessible 'normal' stairwell, then that is another story.
