Maybe it's just the photo angle, but it really looks like the wheelhouse has been widened further to the left since your last shot too. That horn used to be centered over the middle of the wheelhouse, and now the horn and mast both look like they've either been shuffled further to the side, or the wheelhouse is wider. Yeah it appears to be like that Canadian Viking. But, how would widened wheelhouse help the ferry? If, they widened the wheelhouse maybe for the capitin to have more room in the bridge. The K's all have fairly small wheelhouses, so yes, more room for the crew would be the main reason for expansion. This is the Kulleet in 2009.

OK, so the "bridge wing" looks to just be a temporary work scaffold.

It never did look like it matched with the ship very well. The bridge is definitely widened though; it'll be interesting to see how it turns out

Interesting. It looks like maybe the extended part of the bridge is going to have the doors to the bridge facing fore and aft? So it's not like peripheral view from the bridge is going to be any better by having the extra space. But I guess it's the only way to have any access to the bridge now, without having to add a bridge wing of sorts overhanging on to the cardeck, that'd create a potential overheight restriction on that outer lane.

No service notice update, but I suppose it will still be Tenaka on the Hornby route when I head over early tomorrow afternoon. I think the crew and customers will be happy to have the k-barge back, humble though it is.
The female members of my family are united in their assessment of Tenaka as a 'cute' little ferry.

I agree with the female members of ur family about the Tenaka. Kahloke starts sailing on the Hornby route on July 31 by the Travel Centre.

Nice photos, Scott
Looks like Nanaimo Shipyards did a really nice job. She looks nice and clean. Hopefully it stays like that for a while. She didn't look all that nice for quite a few years it seemed.

Any close-ups of that new wheelhouse extension? I'm curious as to how that looks from different angles.

Took a trip over to Denman and back, to see what was new on the dear old k-barge. New paint all around, so she looks relatively spiffy. Nothing touched in the passenger lounge, though. Same old plastic seats. Not that they're any worse than the metal junk BC Ferries has been buying for its peasant boats.
New gates at either end of the car deck, and they've added passenger access to a section of the upper deck on the wheelhouse side, like Klitsa now has. That's a nice touch.
No photos though, as I seem to have had my camera stolen. I think I may have inadvertently left my car unlocked with the camera in view.

Regarding the expansion of Kahloke's wheelhouse:
Again, having my camera stolen I can't show it, but if you look at Mr Horn's photo in reply #32 in this thread, you'll notice there used to be a small platform overhanging the car deck, which provided side access into the wheelhouse. That area has now been added and enclosed, and access to the bridge is now through doors fore and aft.

Didn't think to take a picture until it was time to unload... the bridge extension on Kahloke.

A sign posted on board the Kahloke, or Kohloke, or whatever it's called. BC Ferries can't be expected to know. Less than a month after returning to service, I'm already seeing signs of rust through the new paint.

On a lower note, looks like BC Ferries' plan to retire the Tenaka when this Cable Ferry enters service has got the green light too... on the other hand, BCF would gain the Quinitsa as a regular relief vessel... Or the Kahloke depending on which vessel they want on Denman-Hornby. Perhaps a Summer/Winter Tandem? Considering how many times the Tenaka and Kahloke had to go into Shuttle Mode over the Summer, it might be a solution to have the Quinitsa do the run in Summer and the Kahloke in the Winter. I think during the winter the Kahloke will end up on the Brentwood Bay - Mill Bay to replace the Klitsa because it would be better for her to service the route just in case highway 1 gets closed from snow. During the summer she will be an extra vessel on the Chemainus - Thetis Island - Penelakut Island to help out with traffic.

On-board photos of Kahloke. - April 13, 2013. The side-lounge is very inviting. I never found the "Best Buy Express" machine. My signature style shot of the car-deck, as we are headed back to Denman Island

The side-lounge is very inviting. I never found the "Best Buy Express" machine. My signature style shot of the car-deck, as we are headed back to Denman Island I see header contest winners here... A 60x17 cropped version of the upper photo is a sure-bet winner in this month's contest. As for the lower photo, well Mr. Horn's turn is coming to pick the theme. I suggest that he chooses 'macro' type close-ups of ferry car deck surfaces. Again, he would have a winner here. For Scott's next turn, he might want to go with the theme of Henry the ferry vacuum cleaner, where all shots must be taken from a floor-level angle .

A video compilation of various long-form video shoots of Kahloke, from April 13, 2013. - including a complete round-trip from Gravelly Bay to Shingle Spit, and back again; shot from the picnic table area at Gravelly Bay.
I found the Kahloke's numerous course-changes to be amusing. Lots of moving around on her route, and the sped-up video effect makes it look strange.
At 1:46 of the video, you will hear a phone ringing. That's the loud phone ringer in the Gravelly Bay ramp-shack. No one there to answer it...
At the 7:10 mark of the video, the berthing at Gravelly Bay is interesting because it looks so difficult and seems to have plenty of adjustments until it's finally completed. Must be even tougher in rough weather (Lambert Channel is a wind-tunnel)
My intention with the ending scene is to see the weather gate being lowered. But you also get to see some of the friendliest crew that I've ever encountered.

The "Kahloke Shake" is the latest viral dance that all the little ferries are doing. Just a bit to the side, then straight ahead, then a bit to the side, then straight again....over and over again.
Here's my video of the Kahloke Shake
