Does anyone know if Kahloke still has it's mechanical z-drive pods (versus electric azimuth pods)? Also, with the Tenaka gone now which ship will serve as its back up/replacement vessel?

Also, with the Tenaka gone now which ship will serve as its back up/replacement vessel? For the period from now until when the HSQ is retired, I think it would be Quinitsa that replaces Kahloke on the Hornby route.

Thanks for the info! Do you think that Salish Orca will ever do fittings on Hornby or Denman for the same reasons it tried out Quathiaski Cove? Or to show it off as well? Perhaps that is a dumb question, and I understand it would probably never ever visit these terminals but I can imagine this could be part of the universalization of the fleet and the berthing requirements for newbuilds etc.

Arriving at Gravelly Bay on Kahloke, on a sunny Sunday in February 2018 . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr I walked part-way up the stairs on the bridge side of the vessel, wondering if this was a passenger sundeck, or just a crew area where they forgot to display the crew-only sign. So I stopped half way, and went back to the car deck.

On a vessel this spartan, you can't afford to miss any 'amenities'. I came over on the 3:40 from Gravelly on Sunday. Which sailing were you on?

I left Hornby on the 1:00pm sailing. 4 vehicles in total on that sailing.

My Gravelly Bay view of Kahloke on a trip from Hornby to Denman: - morning of February 4, 2018.
She takes a storm-course to keep herself bow-into-the-wind until the last moment, and then does a tight turn into the terminal area.

As usual, BC Ferries is indulging in their little joke of giving us Quinitsa when we don't need her, and Kahloke will be back after the May long weekend, when traffic starts to ramp up. Maybe it will be like last summer, when we endured hours long commutes into Courtenay, with Quinitsa sitting idle at Buckley Bay.

'jimbojet' is a bit off. Kahloke will indeed end up covering for Klitsa for just about two months. I'm sort of wondering what 'haunting grounds' are. Hornby does have a graveyard, but it's kinda far from the ferry.

As of April 1, 2020, BCFS says MV Kahloke is being replaced by the #Quinitsa.
I'm assuming now Kahloke is headed to dry dock or even Route 12 for more capacity.
Im a regular on rt 12 and it could use the extra space fore sure!
Anyone else hear anything different?

I don't see a service notice. I'm assuming Kahloke is going in for a refit.

Well my apologies, I'm wasn't sure how to do so after reading the response to a question from BCFS's Twitter account. The post was about the Bowen Queen being placed on the Crofton Vesuvius route, someone asked where the Quinitsa would be going. Here is the link
